November 2011 Issue 354

I was asked recently by one of our members what all the hoopla was about as it relates to social networks on the Internet. The question was more like a request for a meeting presentation on the subject.

At the steering meeting we wondered how best to present this topic and whether there was enough content for a worthwhile presentation, especially since no one on the steering committee has had much experience with social networks like Facebook, Twitter, and Google+. So, we figured we would run an extended round table discussion on this topic and see what came of it. We hope to elicit some thoughts and comments from all meeting attendees.

Are you aware that every club member is a member of at least one Internet social network and that is the club email system and indirectly a member of Google Groups. Beyond that, some members may be sharing other information like pictures, videos, blogs, etc. through websites that host such activities and are therefore a member of an Internet social network without maybe realizing it.

As much as we can, we'll spend some time talking about the big social networks like FB, Twitter, & Google+. We'll try to cover the pros & cons of joining these networks.

1) It's that time of year again -- CLUB MEMBERSHIP RENEWAL time. Please give your dues to our treasurer, John D, at the meeting or mail checks to his address as indicated on the back cover. Checks should be made payable to: MLCUG.

2) Club membership entitles you to receive a hard copy of the newsletter and access to our email list server, which is run for the benefit of our members. Please do not hesitate to post club and computer related notices and problems to it. If we can't solve your problem remotely, we can be alerted to it ahead of the monthly meeting where more hands-on may help resolve your problem.

3) A few of the regular attendees usually partake of lunch at the Campus Corner Restaurant near the intersection of Routes 30 and 320 just off the Villanova University campus. So, after the meeting, why not join us? It's an opportunity to get more help and to discuss our common interests.

4) Help MLCUG go ``Green''. We issue this newsletter by both electronic means through our email list server and in hardcopy format. If you find yourself not reading the hardcopy, PLEASE inform John D, the editor, so that you will only receive the electronic version.

Attendance: 10 people in all attended the meeting on Saturday, October 8th.

Main Meeting Q&A: We began last month's meeting with our normal round of questions and announcements. Among the questions and announcements:
