Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut is the first PlayStation game to have trophy support on PC.

PlayStation announced that Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut is the first game to use the new PlayStation overlay on PC, which will include the friends list, trophies, settings, etc. With the release of Ghost of Tsushima, PlayStation is bringing Trophy support on PC for the first time for a PlayStation PC title.

Players can obtain Trophies by logging into their PSN accounts on PC. While playing the game, players can earn PlayStation Trophies, just like on the PlayStation consoles. In addition, there will be full support for Achievements on Steam and Epic Games Store. The list of trophies is the same as that of the PlayStation 5 version, but it’s unclear if the list will be treated as separate from the PS5 version.

In addition to bringing Trophies and other options to PC, PlayStation has also announced that Ghost of Tsushima will have cross-platform play between PlayStation and PC. The cross-platform play can be accessed through the game’s Legends mode, which will require a PlayStation Network account.

Ghost of Tsushima: Director’s Cut will launch on PC on May 16, 2024.

Sony Interactive Entertainment is reportedly planning to hold a PlayStation State of Play showcase in May,

According to Jeff Grubb from Giant Bomb, Sony might be hosting a PlayStation Showcase or State of Play in May. Grubb revealed on the Giant Bombcast livestream podcast that ESRB has classified Konami’s upcoming Silent Hill 2 remake, and the release date for the game could be announced at the upcoming PlayStation event.

I have heard that there will be a PlayStation… something—either a State of Play or a Showcase—in May, so this is probably going to be there.

Grubb did not specify whether the event next month would be another State of Play or a PlayStation Showcase. However, Sony hosted a PlayStation Showcase in May last year, and it might also be planning to host another one this year. Last year’s PlayStation Showcase ran over for an hour, featured more than 30 games, and revealed the PlayStation Portal handheld device.

Silent Hill 2 remake has recently been rated Mature by the ESRB for its depiction of violence, blood and gore, sexual themes, and use of inappropriate language for those below the age of 17. According to the rating board’s summary, the game highlights the realistic portrayal of violence, and the game’s environments often feature graphic scenes such as large bloodstains and exposed intestines/organs, adding to the overall horror experience.

Sony previously stated that more PlayStation-exclusive games would be available on PC as the company changed its business strategy to increase profit.

PlayStation chairman Hiroki Totoki said the company will focus more on improving the hardware and releasing first-party PlayStation games for PC. As a result, Sony announced Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut, which will be released on PC on May 16, 2024. The Last of Us Part 2 Coming To PC?

According to reliable leaker Silknigth on Twitter, the PC version of The Last of Us Part II Remastered might be announced soon. Silknigth previously leaked the announcement of Ghost of Tsushima’s PC port accurately. The leaker posted on Twitter that The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered is expected to be announced in April. However, he stated there will be a long period between the announcement and the game’s release date.

Silknigth did not mention when the PC port for The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered will be announced, nor the release date. Stellar Blade gameplay footage was posted on YouTube as the demo accidentally went live on the PlayStation Store.

A playable demo for the upcoming PlayStation 5 exclusive action title Stellar Blade was briefly published on the North American PlayStation Store. Sony then delisted the demo from the store a couple of hours later as it was a publication error from the Korean developers Shift Up. After the playable demo went live, many content creators and players started playing the game before Sony pulled the plug.

While Sony mistakenly released the demo for Stellar Blade on the PS Store, some players and content creators quickly downloaded and installed the demo before the game was delisted. Some Twitch streamers started playing the game on stream after the demo went live. Afterward, the streams were quickly removed after Sony issued DMCA takedown requests. However, that did not stop the creators on YouTube from posting the gameplay footage of the demo.

Stellar Blade Demo Gameplay Posted On YouTube

The forty-minute demo gameplay showcased the game’s opening sequence, including the opening cutscenes and tutorial stages of Stellar Blade. In the beginning, the video shows Eve, the protagonist of the game, arriving on a planet annihilated by war. Eve joined a close companion in the battle to survive before things go wrong and emotion, leaving her to explore the post-apocalyptic world of Zion that’s collapsing around her.

The demo gameplay showcased the game’s combat mechanics, intense boss fights, and soundtracks. Even before the release of Stellar Blade, Eve’s character design was one of the most talked about topics in the gaming community. At the very start of the game, players are introduced to Eve and her character design, which is based on Shin Jae-eun, a South Korean model.

Apart from Eve’s character model and gameplay, the demo also showcased the ‘Camps’ skill settings, upgrade paths, outfits, and acrobatic combat style. As it is still demo gameplay footage, the game’s developers will make some minor changes ahead of the game’s release.

Stellar Blade is scheduled to be released exclusively for the PlayStation 5 on April 26, 2024.

A live-service Twisted Metal game has reportedly been cancelled as Sony laid off 900 employees from PlayStation.

Sony announced yesterday that the company has decided to lay off 900 PlayStation employees, around 8% of the company’s global workforce. The mass layoff resulted in Sony closing down the PlayStation Studios in London and impacted studios in other regions. One of the PlayStation studios impacted was Firesprite, a UK-based studio in Liverpool where an unspecified number of people will be laid off.

It was later revealed that a new live-service Twisted Metal game was being developed at Firesprite, which was reportedly cancelled because of the layoffs. A reboot of Twisted Metal was under development in 2022 at Firesprite, having moved from the original developer Lucid Games.

Live Service Twisted Metal Game Cancelled

Bloomberg reporter Jason Schreier first reported that the live service Twisted Metal project was reportedly cancelled after PlayStation decided to lay off employees globally. The reboot has been in active development since 2022 at the Firesprite studio in Liverpool. Since the layoff impacted all major PlayStation studios, Firesprite will cut off some of the employees, resulting in the project being cancelled.

Although the news of the live service Twisted Metal game being cancelled was reported by Bloomberg, Sony did not confirm anything. However, the Twisted Metal game was still in the early development stages and would’ve taken a few more years to finish.

The layoffs also include job losses at Naughty Dog, Guerrilla, and Insomniac, as well as the complete shutdown of the London Studio. It was also reported that The Last of Us Factions, another live service game under development at Naughty Dog has also been cancelled.

PlayStation Cuts Off 8% Workforce Globally

On February 27, 2024, Jim Ryan emailed PlayStation employees that the company had decided to reduce the workforce. In addition, Ryan also shared the news on Sony Interactive Entertainment’s website.

The PlayStation community means everything to us, so I felt it was important to update you on a difficult day at our company. We have made the extremely hard decision to announce our plan to commence a reduction of our overall headcount globally by about 8% or about 900 people, subject to local law and consultation processes. Employees across the globe, including our studios, are impacted.

These are incredibly talented people who have been part of our success, and we are very grateful for their contributions. However, the industry has changed immensely, and we need to future ready ourselves to set the business up for what lies ahead. We need to deliver on expectations from developers and gamers and continue to propel future technology in gaming, so we took a step back to ensure we are set up to continue bringing the best gaming experiences to the community.

Jim Ryan, President & CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment

Several PlayStation studios are impacted because of the global reduction in workforce, including Sony, which has decided to close the London Studio entirely. Jim Ryan’s email also mentioned that the impacted employees will be notified today.

Developer Arrowhead Games confirmed they have no plans to add PvP mode to Helldivers 2.

Arrowhead Games’ sci-fi shooter Helldivers 2 has become an unexpected hit after selling one million copies in four days. The game was released for PlayStation 5 and PC simultaneously on February 8, 2024. Helldivers 2 became PlayStation’s biggest-ever launch on Steam and peaked at 155,926 concurrent players following its release.

Johan Pilestedt, Arrowhead CEO and Helldivers 2’s creative director announced that the game had an amazing launch on both platforms and performed better than the studio expected. However, Helldivers 2 faced server issues because of the influx of players, which the studio fixed quickly to prevent the entire system from failing.

The community has asked to add a PvP mode in Helldivers 2 since the game is PvE only. Arrowhead Game Studios responded to the community and said that the studio has no intention of adding a PvP mode to the game.

Arrowhead Game Studios’ Response To Fans

On Twitter/X, CEO of Arrowhead Game Studios Johan Pilestedt said that Helldivers 2 will “never” have PvP (Player versus Player) added to the game. After a fan asked Pilestedt if the studio had any plans on adding PvP to Helldivers 2 to steal players away from Call of Duty. Pilestedt replied to the fan that the studio decided never to add PvP due to the toxicity it may bring to the game.

After another person responded to the tweet saying that the developers were too “scared” to add PvP into the game. However, Pilestedt responded and said that the team didn’t want the toxicity and to make the game challenging for gamers to have some fun with their friends.

Helldivers 2 is a third-person co-op shooter in which players squad up in a team of four to take on alien bugs and automatons on a map packed with intense action and explosions. Although there is no PvP mode in the game, there is friendly fire, which is equally dangerous. Turrets can kill a player’s team member if they accidentally get in the way.

Sony might release more PlayStation-exclusive titles to PC to improve the profit margin for the gaming division.

The president of Sony Interactive Entertainment and PlayStation chairman Hiroki Totoki wants the company to become more ‘aggressive’ with PlayStation-exclusive games released on PC to increase profits for the gaming division.

Chairman Hiroki Totoki attended a Q&A session after Sony’s latest financial call, where he was asked if PlayStation’s gaming division would see an increase in profits. Moreover, Totoki was asked if the company is taking initiatives to improve the profits for PlayStation. The chairman said that the company will focus more on improving the hardware and the release of first-party PlayStation games.

More PlayStation Games Coming To PC?

Hiroki Totoki spoke about his first experience as the chairman of Sony Interactive Entertainment. During the company’s financial results call, Totoki pointed out some flaws in PlayStation’s current business strategy and what can potentially change in the future.

It’s been four months since I became chairman of SIE. A big problem of SIE that I found is they don’t necessarily have a deep understanding of how their work is being translated to growth, generation of sustainable profits, and higher margins for the unit as a whole.

In the past, we wanted to popularize console, and the 1st party titles’ main purpose was to make the PlayStation console popular. It is true, but there is a synergy to it. So if you have strong first-party content, not only with our console but also other platforms like computers, 1st party can be grown with multiplatform and that can help operating profit to improve. So that is another one we want to proactively work on.

I personally think there are opportunities out there for improvement of margins, so I would like to go aggressive in improving our margin performance.

Hiroki Totoki, President of Sony Interactive Entertaiment

Sony has recently announced that no first-party PlayStation titles will come out until April 2025. The statement from chairman Totoki suggests that Sony will take time to develop the upcoming exclusive titles. Moreover, the company will focus on bringing more PlayStation-exclusive titles to PC in the meantime.

For example, Helldivers 2 was released for the PlayStation 5 and PC on the same day. The game performed exceptionally well and became PlayStation’s best-ever launch on Steam.
