Riot is going to make some updates to Swain in League of Legends as we might be getting a mini-rework.

It has been a minute since Riot has come out with a rework of a champion. The last time we got such changes was the Corki update in Patch 14.10 to turn him into an AD character.

Since then, Riot has not rolled out any rework level changes even though significant adjustments rolled out in League of Legends. But it is a well-known fact that Riot is always testing behind the scenes to change things they do not like.

This seems to be where they are going with Swain as Riot is going to make some hefty changes. Here is what we know so far.

Upcoming Swain Update

While Riot has not yet completely revealed the new Swain changes, they gave us an insight into what is being worked on. A lot of it is changing up his playstyle while giving him some reliability changes. The prospective changes are as follows.

  • Reducing Dependencies on Items during his Ult
  • Increasing reliability for abilities for both laning and support. Buffing Q for solo lane and E for supports.
  • Improving the ultimate to give more potent damage in shorter duration skirmishes.

Essentially, Riot is trying to make Swain more reliable as a champion. His effectiveness has always relied on items to help him out sustain enemies in fights. Also, his kit is designed for longer team fights, so that puts Swain in a niche.

Thus, Riot is changing a lot of those dependencies and attributes in order to make him more reliable in two separate roles. In theory, this sounds like a great idea for a champion who is struggling to find relevance at the highest levels.

However, the problem arises when Riot does too much (Aurelion Sol CGU) and they have to spend the next patches and so to balance that out. Riot still hasn’t found the right balance for ASol and that should say a lot.

Hopefully, Riot irons out the details and lands at a place where Swain will be strong, and only minor nerfs/buffs will be required to keep him in a good state.
