Swarm is coming to League of Legends at the Summer Event as players are in for a new experience.
From 2023, Riot has started investing a lot in player experience for League of Legends. While that has led to negative aspects like overpriced cosmetics, it is still worth noting that Riot is innovating with the game. Reworking content has been in the works while Riot is adding new minigames and game modes.
Last year, Arena was first released, and it has gained massive praise as it was brought back in 2024. With its success, Riot continues to innovate, and a brand new game mode called Swarm is coming soon. Here is all we know about the game mode.

What Is Swarm?
Swarm is the upcoming Bullet Heaven Survivor Game Mode created by Riot. As shown in the video above, players will be controlling a character each where they move around and kill the horde of monsters that are rushing towards them.
It was a small snippet revealed by Riot, just to experience what to expect. There is plenty of stuff in this game mode to experience, as we will control 1 of the playable characters, abilities, etc.
Playable Characters In Swarm
Swarm will have nine playable characters as revealed by Rioters. The characters in the game are as follows:
- Aurora
- Briar
- Illaoi
- Jinx
- Leona
- Riven
- Seraphine
- Xayah
- Yasuo
Furthermore, Riot H28 G Evo has confirmed that each champion will have three abilities. One of them is an auto attack, while others need to be pressed by the player. The abilities can be auto-aim or user-aimed based on player settings.
Abilities that players gain during a round are picked, so players can experiment and build up a champion. However, how that entirely works has still not been explained or revealed.
You do not need to own champions to play them, as the mode itself will unlock different champions at level 1. Also, the mode will be made easy to access for brand new players who just want to play the game mode.
Controls In Swarm
Swarm will feature a WASD control as Riot tried the usual control system, but it didn’t pan out well. Hence, Riot is using this as a way to see whether players would be interested in this type of control scheme while looking to implement it in the future for other new game modes.
There will be no controller support for Swarm as League of Legends does not support it natively. However, Riot has said it is possible to implement it in the future.
Enemies in Swarm
Since it is a Bullet Heaven game mode, let’s talk about the baddies. In the video, we see a lot of small minion-like monsters called Primordians rushing at us, while there are big bosses who represent Primordian Champions.
As the skins have been revealed, it looks like there will be three or four bosses as all the Primordian skins are bosses, with Aatrox being the Big Bad Evil dude.
Others include Bel’Veth and Rek’Sai, while the status of Briar as a villain is unknown, considering she is a playable character.
Release Date
As for the release date of Swarm, it is expected that Riot will come out with the game mode in Patch 14.14, which is on Wednesday, July 17, 2024.
