The action-packed zombie apocalypse title from Dambuster Studios has been surprisingly released on Xbox’s subscription service.
Dead Island 2 has been launched on Xbox Game Pass and is currently available for download. The game suddenly appeared in the ‘recently added’ section on the Xbox Store without official announcements from Microsoft or publisher Deep Silver. The long-awaited sequel of 2011’s Dead Island was released in 2023 and sold over 2 million copies worldwide across all platforms just two weeks after release.
Earlier this month, Xbox Wire announced the upcoming games coming to Xbox’s subscription service from February to March 2024 in a blog post. Return to Grace, Tales of Arise, Bluey: The Videogame, Maneater, Madden NFL 24, Indivisible, Space Engineers, and Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun are all new games coming to Xbox Game Pass in March 2024.

Dead Island 2 Gets a Surprise Release on Xbox Game Pass
Renowned Twitter user Wario64 first noticed and posted about Dead Island 2’s arrival on the Xbox Game Pass. Moments after Wario’s post, the game’s developers posted on the social media platform that the game was available to Xbox Game Pass subscribers. However, the game is available only on the console and via cloud service for Game Pass subscribers.
Microsoft may have wanted this low-key Game Pass release to serve as a consolation prize for the Xbox community’s outrage over the company’s decision to release Pentiment, Grounds on the Nintendo Switch, Hi-Fi Rush, and Sea of Thieves on the PlayStation 5.
