  • From the Scorched Ruins grace, head northeast.
  • Look for a Pot Shadow in the area; it may be hidden behind some rocks or debris.

Location: Northeast of the Shadow Realm entrance

Nearest Landmark: Scorched Ruins

Difficulty: Easy

Detailed Directions:

1. Once you enter the Shadow Realm, head northeast along the main road.
2. You will see gravestones scattered across the landscape.
3. The map fragment is located on a stone stele just before reaching the Scorched Ruins.
4. But you need to be cautious of Curseblade Ascetics.

Pro Tip: This is the easiest fragment to obtain and should be your first priority after entering the DLC area.

2. Scadu Altus Map Fragment

Location: Northeast of Highroad Cross in Scadu Altus

Nearest Landmark: Messmer Soldier Camp

Difficulty: Medium

Detailed Directions:

1. There are two ways to reach Scadu Altus:
   • Through Castle Ensis (more challenging):
     • Defeat the boss Rellana in the Castle-Lord’s Chamber.
     • Exit through the main gate and follow the northern road towards The Shadow Keep.
   • Bypass Castle Ensis (easier, but longer):
     • From Castle Front Site of Grace, head southeast to Fort of Reprimand.
     • You need to use the Spiritsprings near the fort to access Scadu Altus.
2. Once in Scadu Altus, follow the main road north.
3. The map fragment is on a stele just before reaching a Messmer Soldier camp.

Pro Tip: If you’re struggling with the Castle Ensis boss, the bypass route offers a safer, but longer, path to the fragment.

3. Southern Shore Map Fragment

Location: Cerulean Coast, southwest region

Nearest Landmark: Cerulean Coast Cross Site of Grace

Difficulty: Hard

Detailed Directions:

1. Start at the Castle Front Site of Grace in Gravesite Plain.
2. Head southeast, following the path around Castle Ensis.
3. Descend the cliffs carefully, using stone outcroppings as platforms.
4. Navigate through the poison swamp and enter the cave behind a giant poisonous flower.
5. Follow the Ellac River, using Torrent to jump between rock ledges.
6. Continue south past the Ellac River Downstream Site of Grace.
7. Avoid the patrolling Furnace Golem and enter the Cerulean Coast through a stone arch.
8. Head south past the Ghostflame Dragon.
9. The map fragment is on a stele just ahead.

Pro Tip: Stock up on poison cures and bring ranged weapons to deal with enemies in the swamp area.

4. Ancient Ruins of Rauh Map Fragment

Location: Rauh Base, northwest region

Nearest Landmark: Temple Town Ruins

Difficulty: Medium

Detailed Directions:

1. From the Moorth Ruins Site of Grace in Scadu Altus, travel northeast.
2. Look for a pond with large glowing worms and enter the nearby cave.
3. Navigate through the Perfumer-filled cave and exit to the north.
4. Head northwest, following the waterway past Gravebirds.
5. Enter the large rock opening to reach Rauh Base.
6. Continue southwest, avoiding the giant crossbow-wielding enemies.
7. The map fragment is on a monument outside a group of ruins.

Pro Tip: The Rauh area is split into upper and lower levels. This fragment is on the lower level, which is easier to access early on.

5. Abyssal Woods Map Fragment

Location: Southeast of Forsaken Graveyard in Abyssal Woods

Nearest Landmark: Abandoned Church

Difficulty: Very Hard

Detailed Directions:

1. Enter The Shadow Keep in Scadu Altus and progress to the grand staircase.
2. Find a hidden pathway behind a wall near a red painting.
3. Use the stone coffin to travel to the lower Scadu Altus region.
4. Navigate down the cliffs and waterfalls to reach the Darklight Catacombs entrance.
5. Complete the Darklight Catacombs, defeating Jori, Elder Inquisitor, at the end.
6. Enter the Abyssal Woods and head southeast along the path.
7. Defeat or avoid the Madding Hand invader.
8. The map fragment is on a monolith outside the church ruins.

Pro Tip: Stock up on Clarifying Boluses before entering Abyssal Woods, as many enemies inflict Madness.

Revered Spirit Ashes are special items found throughout the Shadow of the Erdtree. When consumed, they increase your Revered Spirit Ash Blessing level, which provides the following benefits:

3. Improved health for your spectral steed, Torrent

It’s important to note that these buffs only apply within the Realm of Shadows (the DLC area) and are temporarily lost when returning to the base game regions or Roundtable Hold.

How to Use Revered Spirit Ashes

To use Revered Spirit Ashes:

1. Collect them throughout your journey in the Shadow of the Erdtree
2. Visit any Site of Grace
3. Select the option to level up your Revered Spirit Ash Blessing
4. Consume the required number of ashes to increase your blessing level

As you progress, you’ll need more ashes to reach higher blessing levels:

Vigor is an Absolute Necessity

I have to say this out loud, your Vigor stat is more crucial than your overall level. You should aim for:

• Minimum 50 Vigor
• Recommended 60 Vigor

The new enemies in Shadow of the Erdtree do more damage than before. A high Vigor stat can mean the difference between surviving and instant death.

The Scadutree Fragment System

Shadow of the Erdtree introduces a new progression mechanic, Scadutree Fragments. These fragments:

• Boost your character’s power within the DLC area,
• Can be found throughout the new region,
• Allow even lower-level characters to become stronger as you progress.

In the new Elden Ring DLC, there is so much to talk about. Here are some key details from the Shadow of the Erdtree preview:

1. You can access this DLC by interacting with Miquella in Mohg’s throne room.
2. When you interact with Miquella, you will get to enter the Land of Shadow.
3. You’ll find new items called Scadutree Fragments and Revered Spirit Ashers to get stronger.
4. Also, you will find symbols like Three-Path Crosses all over the place.
5. In one place called the Belurat gaol, there are these sad things called Living Jars that show how scary the world can be.
6. You will get to explore Belurat castle and a dungeon called Castle Ensis.
7. Some new bosses like big iron braziers that walk around, birds called Gravebirds, people with sharp blades, and trolls that use magic.
8. There are also new weapons you can use, like big swords, special blades, martial arts moves, and more.

In the end, my time playing Shadow of the Erdtree left me hungry for more. The devs have introduced new elements that will keep the players engaged. I hope to finish the story as soon as possible when it is fully released on June 20, 2024.

FromSoft’s Elden Ring was a smash hit back in 2022, and players (like me) have been waiting for the DLC update for the past 2 years. With the first tease of the DLC on X last year, tarnished across the world are eager to see what Miyazaki has been cooking.

Many unanswered questions were left with the initial ending of the Elden Ring. Like every soul-like game from FromSoft, players knew that the story isn’t finished until the DLC is out and that seems to be the case with Shadow of the Erdtree as well.

The new trailer showcases new armor, plots, weapons, enemies, bosses, and more. In this article, I will provide all the details currently available, the rumors, and some personal thoughts in the mix. So, if you want to learn about the Shadow of the Erdtree, then keep on reading!

When is Shadow of the Erdtree Coming Out?

Let’s answer the most sought-after question first. The one and only DLC of Elden Ring, Shadow of the Erdtree is coming out on June 21, 2024. As of this date, there hasn’t been any indication that the developers are planning any more DLC releases of the game (Sorry Darksouls Fans).

The game will be available on Steam and Epic, and you can also preorder the DLC right now!

System Requirements Of the DLC

From the requirements posted by their official Steam page, you will find that the Shadow of the Erdtree has identical system requirements except for the storage requirement. There is a 25% storage increase which I presume is for the DLC contents.

How to Access the DLC?

If they follow the previous pattern then you will have to access the DLC through certain NPCs or areas of the game. My bet is on touching the hand of Miquella at Mohgwin palace.

What Are We Getting in Shadow of the Erdtree?

This is the part you have been waiting for. Like previous Souls games, the DLC will bring new content, playable areas, and more. Let’s dive into them:

New Area: Shadowland/Dreamland?

The Shadow of the Erdtree DLC is an expansion of the game which will include a new area. While the official name of the area hasn’t been revealed, rumors suggest it is the dreamland where Miquella is currently residing.

According to the interview Hidetaka Miyazaki shared with Eurogamer, this expansion will be the largest expansion FromSoft has ever created. It is also said to be larger than Limgrave.

Now I know what you’re thinking: the largest expansion from FromSoft but only larger than Limgrave? I think wordplay is being used here. Miyazaki is doing an underplay and then delivering his best work to catch us off-guard. He specifically said ‘Larger’, this means the expansion area will definitely be larger than Limgrave but what will it be smaller too?

I am hoping to get more than what we got in the Ringed City DLC from Dark Souls 3. Also, keep in mind that there are a lot of legacy dungeons and swamp areas (devs love to torture us)

New Bosses & Enemies

The cryptic messages continue as the Devs also shared that there will be at least 10 new bosses in the game. Now, these bosses are most likely to be story bosses otherwise the excitement of the DLC would be way off. This is due to the fact that Limgrave itself had more than 30 overworld bosses and Shadow of Erdtree is supposed to be larger than Limgrave.

From the trailer, I’ve noticed a giant boss identical to the fire giant we encounter in the consecrated snowfield. He seems to have some sort of furnace burning on top of his head and spews more fire than the fire giant we meet in the game.

There is also a highlight on the new Chimera boss, who’s likely to be some sort of Omen hybrid whose feet look identical to Morgott’s. It seems that we will also encounter one of Malenia’s sisters too.

But the highlight will be on Mesmer, the poster villain in the game, a demigod who will also drop a new rune, possibly leading to a new end-credit scene.

There are a lot more bosses, like a new variation of the Albenuric boss, Dragonic Tree Sentinel but now on a Boar? And new enemies like Mindflayers from DS2, who suck your brains out, heavy sword-wielding assassins, and more will join the frey.

New Playstyle, Weapons and Armor Sets

Of course, there will be new weapons and armor sets. We’ve got some glimpses of them in the trailer, and they look awesome. I am most excited to see the new double-handed armaments and of course, the monk playstyle that has been showcased.  

There are 8 new weapon categories added in the game with the current 31 weapon categories.

New magic sorceries and incantations will also be added.

In the DLC trailer, the first armor that was showcased is a heavy knight armor which is quite identical to the Carian Armor set in the game.

There is a Roman Ligonier-esque armor set, which might also come with a heavy sword.

And a ceramic-based armor set will join the mix. Oh, did I mention that we will get a throwable explosive in the game? Yeah, that’s in the DLC too!   

Answering Plot Questions

Shadow of the Erdtree will be highly likely to answer what is going on with Miquella. We will trace his footsteps to this Shadowland and encounter Mesmer. The trailer ends with Miquella healing the Tree showcased in the tease and trailer.

Keep in mind that the tree here isn’t the Erdtree, it might be the Haligtree or some other variation of it.

My Insights

A lot more drip marketing and info will come from this article’s publication and the DLC’s release. But I think that we might be going back to the past or future even. FromSoft is known for the time travel gimmick, so I won’t be surprised.

I really hope we can finally meet Queen Marika this time around and also find the truth of Raani and Melina’s true identity and more. One reason I believe we are going into the past is the fire giant-looking boss. If he is part of the giant race, then it would make sense we killed the last fire giant in the present.

We also see a young Rennala(?) or her ancestors in the trailer (In present, all of them are dead). Also, Death Root and Blight are present in the trailer, but if we finished the game then it shouldn’t be in the present.

Moreover, the legacy dungeon we see in the trailer shares a striking resemblance to the structure of the crumbling Faram Azula (not so crumbling this time). The Omen boss might be the first descendant of the Omen line entirely.  

Lastly, Mesmer seems a lot like Rykard with the snake, fire, and blood-red hair. It is not uncommon for Souls game to have multiple names for a single character. Maybe this is the version of Rykard that was fighting before he decided to become a complete snake? Perhaps that’s why he’s immortal? The possibilities are endless.

With all said and done, I am really excited to see what’s coming with the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC. Keep following for more updates and guides on Elden Ring!

FromSoftware announced Shadow of the Erdtree, Elden Ring’s first expansion, which will be released in June 2024. The Shadow of the Erdtree gameplay trailer was showcased on Bandai Namco’s official YouTube channel on February 21, 2024. On the same day, the studio revealed that Elden Ring has sold almost 23 million copies worldwide.

Hidetaka Miyazaki, the director of Elden Ring and president of FromSoftware, was recently interviewed by IGN ahead of the game’s upcoming expansion release. In the interview, Miyazaki was asked if there was a possibility for a sequel for Elden Ring or another expansion for the game coming in the near future, and he responded positively.

Elden Ring 2 or More DLC Coming Soon?

During the interview with IGN, Hidetaka Miyazaki was asked if Shadow of the Erdtree is the end of Elden Ring’s story or if the studio is working on more expansion in the future. In addition, the interviewer asked if the studio would consider working on Elden Ring 2.

Miyazaki responded that the studio might work on more expansions, but they are not working on anything. He added that the studio is not ruling out a potential sequel, and the team will work on something in the future.

We don’t want to say this is the end of the Elden Ring saga for now. I think we said a similar thing at the end of Dark Souls 3. We didn’t want to flatten those possibilities or put a pin in them just at that time. And it’s a similar story with Elden Ring. We don’t want to discourage the possibilities for that. There might be more ideas in the future.

We don’t have any current plans to make a second DLC or a sequel, but we definitely don’t want to snuff out that possibility. We think that there could well be something the future.
