Mojang and Microsoft are reportedly working to release Minecraft natively for the current generation PlayStation console.

According to PlayStation Game Size on Twitter, Minecraft will be released natively for PlayStation 5. The Twitter account searches Sony’s console store’s backend to reveal game information ahead of its release. PlayStation Game Size posted Minecraft’s official art with the caption “PS5 Version” with a green check mark, confirming the game’s arrival on Sony’s latest consoles.

Thanks to backward compatibility, only the PlayStation 4 version of Minecraft can be played on the PlayStation 5. Although users have been waiting for an optimized current-generation version for a while, the Xbox version of Minecraft was recently updated to support 4K resolution.

It is unknown what kind of changes could be coming to Minecraft on the PlayStation 5 version, but ray-tracing could be one of the biggest updates that could be coming to the console. In addition, the game could natively support 120 frames per second of gameplay on the PlayStation 5 version. Some fans also hope that the PS5 version of Minecraft will also support PlayStation VR2.
