In the most recent 29.10 Fortnite update, Epic Games added new vehicle builds, crafting tools, and more custom designs to LEGO Fortnite. The survival crafting game will now allow players to roam around the map in vehicles that players can build and customize. Players can create a single-seater Speeder quad-bike to a four-seater Offroad buddy or even a Truck in the game.

Building vehicles in Lego Fortnite requires new items like power cells, wheels, seats, and other components. However, players will need to keep their cars fueled, and thankfully, all of Lego Fortnite’s fuel is environmentally friendly and comes from biomass from the new Compost Bin station.

In addition to the vehicle update, the latest Fortnite update also adds several tools players will need to work with to keep their vehicles running. The Compost Bin, which creates fuel for vehicles, can allow players to recycle old unwanted items and convert them into fertilizer and soil. The game also added The Illuminator, a new light source that can be unlocked through the Crafting Bench in Lego Fortnite.

Fortnite maker Epic Games announced that Apple has reinstated the European developer account, which was banned just a few days ago. After the account was unbanned on Apple’s App Store, Epic Games can publish the Epic Games Store app and Fortnite on iOS devices.

Earlier this week, Apple terminated Epic Games’ Swedish developer account, which the company could use to release Fortnite and other apps on the App Store in some European countries. Thanks to the European Digital Markets Act passed by the European Union in December 2022, developers can take consumers to a third-party website to make payments instead of the App Store.

The Digital Markets Act was enacted in March 2024, allowing Epic Games to publish its Epic Games Store App and Fortnite in some European countries. In 2020, Fortnite was banned from the App Store after violating some of Apple’s guidelines because the developers introduced a direct payment method within the game.

Epic Games Developer Account Reinstated By Apple

In an announcement on its website, Epic Games said that Apple will reinstate its developer account, and the company will now move forward with the plans to launch the Epic Games Store and release Fortnite on iOS in Europe.

Apple has told us and committed to the European Commission that they will reinstate our developer account. This sends a strong signal to developers that the European Commission will act swiftly to enforce the Digital Markets Act and hold gatekeepers accountable. We are moving forward as planned to launch the Epic Games Store and bring Fortnite back to iOS in Europe. Onward!

On Wednesday, the Digital Markets Act officially went into effect, allowing third-party app stores and different payment methods on iOS. The new law will allow European fans to play Fortnite on their iOS devices again.

Epic Games published a blog post stating that Apple terminated its developer account for Sweden, which the company was planning to use to launch Fortnite and the Epic Games Store on the App Store in Europe. In mid-February, the company announced that Apple granted a developer account in the European region thanks to the European Digital Markets Act.

Epic Games announced in February that Fortnite will return to iOS in some European countries thanks to the Digital Markets Act passed in December 2022 by the European Union. Thanks to the act, it would allow Epic Games to publish Fortnite and other apps on Apple’s App Store. The bill is expected to go into effect in March 2024, but Apple decided to terminate Epic Games’ developer account.

Apple Terminates Epic Games’ Developer Account

In the blog post, Epic Games stated that Apple had disabled the Epic Games Sweden AB developer account, citing the company’s past problems with the Fortnite creator and recent criticism of its policies.

We intended to use that account to bring the Epic Games Store and Fortnite to iOS devices in Europe thanks to the Digital Markets Act (DMA). To our surprise, Apple has terminated that account and now we cannot develop the Epic Games Store for iOS. This is a serious violation of the DMA and shows Apple has no intention of allowing true competition on iOS devices.

In terminating Epic’s developer account, Apple is taking out one of the largest potential competitors to the Apple App Store. They are undermining our ability to be a viable competitor and they are showing other developers what happens when you try to compete with Apple or are critical of their unfair practices.

If Apple maintains its power to kick a third party marketplace off iOS at its sole discretion, no reasonable developer would be willing to  utilize a third party app store, because they could be permanently separated from their audience at any time.

Apple said one of the reasons they terminated our developer account only a few weeks after approving it was because we publicly criticized their proposed DMA compliance plan. Apple cited this X post from this thread written by Tim Sweeney. Apple is retaliating against Epic for speaking out against Apple’s unfair and illegal practices, just as they’ve done to other developers time and time again. 

Apple also claims that Epic is a threat to their ecosystem, but this is an entirely unjustified excuse to terminate one of our accounts. Apple has been a long-time public supporter of Unreal Engine. We also have had ongoing contractual relationships with Apple going back to 2010 for Epic’s games, Unreal Engine, and our other creator tools.

Epic Games on the Developer Account Ban

Apple and Epic Games have been involved in an antitrust legal battle since August 2020, when Epic decided to use a new direct payment option in Fortnite to get around Apple’s 30% platform fees. This action resulted in removing the game from the App Store and suspending Epic’s original developer account.

Driftboards were first introduced in Chapter 1 of Fortnite. In the TMNT collaboration, the Driftboards are green colored because of the Ninja Turtles. This device will help you during transportation. You can swiftly traverse the whole map and do some flips and tricks.

Epic Games has announced that Fortnite is returning to iOS, at least in some European countries. The Digital Markets Act, passed in December 2022 by the European Union, will allow developers to publish their own app stores on Apple’s App Store. The bill is expected to go into effect in March 2024, which will allow Epic Games to publish the Epic Games Store on the App Store.

In 2020, Epic Games was taken off from Apple’s App Store for setting up a direct-pay system to avoid paying Apple’s cut of each in-game purchase. Epic Games introduced direct payments within Fortnite for in-game items, such as vBucks and other packs, to bypass Apple’s 30% cut on every microtransaction on iOS.

After Epic introduced the direct payment method within Fortnite, Apple removed Fortnite from the App Store and banned Epic Games’ developer account after establishing that this was a violation. The two companies have had an impasse for over three years, and Epic Games eventually filed a lawsuit against Apple.

Fortnite Coming Back to Apple Devices

Fortnite’s official account posted on the social media platform X about Fortnite’s return on iOS later this year through the Epic Games Store. The post reads,

Remember Fortnite on iOS? How bout we bring that back. Later this year Fortnite will return in Europe on iOS through the @EpicGames Store.

However, with the new Digital Markets Act law, Apple now has to allow developers to create and offer apps without using the App Store. However, Apple changed its terms and conditions to ensure they still earn money on apps not featured on the App Store.

Apple’s new terms and conditions demand that apps downloaded more than a million times yearly must pay €0.50 for every download over a million. As a result, developers on the App Store will owe Apple $542,00 or €500,000 for every million downloads after the first million.

Earlier in January 2024, Apple announced that it would let developers take consumers to a third-party website to make payments instead of the App Store. However, in doing so, Apple will charge a 27% commission on any payments made through these websites. If Epic Games agrees to these terms, they will probably make Fortnite available on iOS devices through the Epic Games Store.
