The first micro-patch of the year for Wild Rift, patch 5.0a, is finally here. Here’s every change that you need to know.

Last year was one of the biggest years in terms of content in Wild Rift. We received so many new additions and reworks to the game.

As for champions, we have gotten many iconic ones like Hecarim, Vladimir, Zyra, Twitch, Fiddlesticks, etc. Not only that, we have also gotten the beloved Arena game mode from League PC. And just like in PC, it was well received in Wild Rift as well. Alongside all of them, we also got a rune system rework.

These were very notable additions to the game. Similarly, as patch 5.0 is the first patch of the year, it would also be as significant as prior updates.

In 5.0, we are getting three new champions. They are Syndra, Talon, and Kindred. Additionally, Arena is coming back as well. And including Arena, we are also getting a limited-time game mode called Double Cast.

With new additions also come new balance changes. So, in patch 5.0a, we are getting some buffs, nerfs, and reworks in Wild Rift. Let’s check all of them out.

League of Legends Wild Rift: Patch 5.0a

Champion Buffs

Garen

With the new item changes, Garen has become a very weak champion in the early game. And because of his subpar scaling, he can’t even compete in the late game as well. So, he is getting some much-needed buffs.

  • Decisive Strike
    • Damage: 30/70/110/150 + 40% Attack Damage >>> 40/80/120/160 + 40% Attack Damage
  • Judgment
    • Damage per on-hit: 11/14/17/20 + 30%/35%/40%/45% Attack Damage >>> 12/16/20/24 + 30%/35%/40%/45% Attack Damage

Syndra

Even though Syndra is the newest champion in the game, she is still a very weak mage overall. So, she is getting some health and scaling buffs.

  • Base Stats
    • Base Health: 540 >>> 570
  • Dark Sphere
    • Damage: 70/110/150/190 + 55% Ability Power >>> 70/115/160/205 + 65% Ability Power

Zyra

Similar to Syndra, Zyra’s early game is pitiful as well. So, she is getting some early damage on her Deadly Spines ability. At the same time, she is getting more late-game damage on Garden of Thorns while also getting some scaling nerfs.

  • Garden of Thorns
    • Health of Thorn Spitter: (20 – 160) + 35% Ability Power >>> (20 – 272) + 25% Ability Power
  • Deadly Spines
    • Damage: 60/110/160/210 + 50% Ability Power >>> 70/125/180/235 + 50% Ability Power

Ziggs

Even with the QoL buffs he received not too long ago, Ziggs hasn’t reached his true potential. So, he is getting some slight buffs.

  • Short Fuse
    • Damage to turret: 15% >>> 24%
    • Empowered damage of Bouncing Bomb to turret: 20% >>> 32%

Champion Nerfs

Fizz

In the past couple of patches, Fizz has been a strong pick across all ranks. These nerfs should reduce his impact slightly during team fights.

  • Urchin Strike
    • Damage: 20/40/60/80 + 55% Ability Power + 100% Attack Damage >>> 20/40/60/80 + 50% Ability Power + 100% Attack Damage
  • Rending Wave
    • Empowered basic attack: 50/75/100/125 + 50% Ability Power >>> 50/75/100/125 + 45% Ability Power

Twitch

Since the last patch, Twitch has become a very strong flex pick. So Riot is nerfing his base stats heavily while nerfing his Spray and Pray.

  • Base Stats
    • Base Attack Damage: 58 >>> 54
    • Attack Damage per level: 4.5 >>> 3.5
  • Spray and Pray
    • Bonus Attack Damage gained: 25/40/55 >>> 20/35/50

Champion Adjustments

Yuumi (Rework)

Yuumi’s rework was announced during the patch preview of 5.0. To summarize the changes, when she attacks the enemy champion, she gains extra shields. And the overall buffs she provides has increased. To be fair, these changes might make her one of the best support champions in the game again.

  • Bop N’ Block
    • New: Yuumi’s attacks and abilities against enemy champions grant her a shield, which also takes effect when Yuumi is Attached.
    • Shield value: 35 + 25 per level + 25% Ability Power >>> 50 + 10 per level + 25% Ability Power
  • Cooldown: 18/15/12/9s (growth at 1/5/9/13 levels) >>> all levels 18s

Sivir

When Sivir is ahead, she is becomes extremely oppressive. At the same time, she cannot scale into late game, if she falls behind. So Riot is nerfing her late game, while buffing her early game.

  • Ricochet
    • Damage: 22%/24%/26%/28% Attack Damage >>> 8/10/12/14 + 15%/17%/19%/21% Attack Damage

Item Changes

Titanic Hydra

  • Cleave: Range of the shockwave: 500 → 550

Heartsteel

  • Colossal Consumption: Time for charging the huge strike: 3s → 2.5s

Riot will celebrate more regional events including Ramadan and through cosmetics this year in Wild Rift.

Like other Riot IPs, Wild Rift is known for its cultural aspects just as much as its gameplay. This cultural aspect includes music, videos, events, and cosmetics. On almost every big occasion, Riot Games holds events for the clients of the respective games.

Many of the events are tied to the real-world cultural festivals. For example, Christmas, Lunar New Year, etc. These are great occasions for exciting events in the game. Players can get lucrative offers on various cosmetics such as skins, emotes, icons, and so on. Loots, such as chests and skin shards can be obtained more easily and frequently through the event missions and passes.

Although Riot has been known for being very inclusive, the events in Wild Rift were held mostly at the global festival. Christmas, Halloween, etc. are examples. However, this year, Riot is trying to include more regional events as well. And as usual, those events will also come with new, exclusive cosmetics.

In this article, see what Riot is up to now with Wild Rift events.

New Regional Events and Cosmetics

Announcement of more regional events for Wild Rift

So Lunar Extravaganza is just another Lunar New Year-related event. This is one of the more regular events. But this year, on top of that, Riot will be celebrating events based on Ramadan and Carnival in Wild Rift.

Ramadan is one of the most important months for Muslims, leading to the biggest Islamic festival, Eid. Wild Rift is massively popular in Indonesia and its surrounding regions. These regions have a large Muslim population. It’s one of the reasons why Garena servers (now disbanded) used to celebrate Hari Raya locally too.

Carnival is another important event globally that happens for a few days just before Lent. Aside from the religious perspective, the aesthetics of Carnival is very renowned in pop culture. So, it was only a matter of time before it found its way into Wild Rift.

The Carnival is just a few days away. So all the cosmetics such as emotes and icons will be added to the game soon. Ramadan will be starting in March. So we will be seeing cosmetics related to that later. It’s still not sure whether there will be skins or not. But you can be sure about emotes and icons related to both of the events.

Riot has revealed that they will be adding four thematic patches a year for Wild Rift.

Last year was a very exciting year for Wild Rift. In that, we have experienced a ton of new and exciting additions and changes that exceeded players’ expectations.

Regarding champions, we have gotten a ton of interesting ones. Some of the notable champions are Zeri, Zoe, Ornn, Swain, Volibear, Hecarim, Fiddlesticks, etc. These champions offered something very unique to the game and shifted the meta as well. Additionally, a lot of older champions from PC League of Legends got a huge facelift when they appeared in Wild Rift. The main ones are Hecarim, Zyra, and Vladimir. Now, Hecarim’s in-game model represents his current splash art. Similarly, Zyra also got some visual uplift. Vladimir got a complete visual overhaul in Wild Rift. He’s far younger, and the quality is amazing. Moreover, it is lore accurate as they even made a cinematic about it.

As for mechanic changes, Riot also completely overhauled the rune system. The new rune system is now more akin to the current PC rune system, but it is slightly easier and streamlined.

With that said one thing they did last year was that they change the yearly patch cycle. Before, there were six major patches, but last year there were only 5. However, it didn’t mean that we got less content. In fact, we got more meaningful content last year than the prior. Recently, they have announced that, instead of five, we are getting four thematic patches a year.

Wild Rift: Four Thematic Patches A Year

As stated before, Riot will be releasing four major patches a year instead of five. Riot did assure us that, just like the previous year, we are not getting less content. In fact, according to Riot, we will be getting more content each patch, and each addition will be more influential than before.

Another thing Riot mentioned is that each patch will be tied to a different theme. For example, in quarter 2 of 2024, we are getting a Shadow Isle-themed patch. So it will include Shadow Isle-themed champions, items, lore, and much more content.

They also revealed that in quarter 4 of 2024, we are getting an Arcane-themed content update. There, we will see more new content based on the show.

Lastly, they revealed that during the Shadow Isle-themed patch, we are getting a champion from that place. My guess is that we might be getting Viego. Regardless, we will be getting a lot of amazing content this year.

Riot Games announced laying off 530 employees earlier today, almost 11% of its entire staff.

Riot Games, the makers of League of Legends and VALORANT, announced that it will be laying off 530 workers worldwide. The mass layoff will impact most of the company’s non-development teams, comprising almost 11% of the Riots’ workforce. Furthermore, Riot Games declared it would shut down Riot Forge, a subsidiary of Riot that collaborated with other developers to produce more compact, single-player games like The Mageseeker and Song of Nunu.

Riot Games became the newest company in the industry to hit with layoffs after Twitch and Unity. Earlier this month, live streaming platform Twitch and game engine developer Unity laid off almost 2,300 employees from those companies. Last year, it was estimated that nearly 10000 people in the video games industry lost their jobs. And, just a month into 2024, the video game industry is already facing massive layoffs.

Riot Games Hit With Mass Lay-Offs

Riot Games Shanghai
Riot Games Shanghai

Riot Games’ CEO, Dylan Jadeja, posted on the official Riot Games website that the layoffs are mainly because the company has “too many things underway.” Jadeja admitted that the company made some “bad bets” during its rapid growth since 2019. Because of those bad bets, the publisher had to make tough decisions, resulting in mass layoffs.

“Today, we’re a company without a sharp enough focus, and simply put, we have too many things underway. Some of the significant investments we’ve made aren’t paying off the way we expected them to. Our costs have grown to the point where they’re unsustainable, and we’ve left ourselves with no room for experimentation or failure – which is vital to a creative company like ours. All of this puts the core of our business at risk.

Over the past several months, we’ve tried to alter our trajectory in many different ways.

hiring slowdowns, and in some cases hiring freezes.

We put an emphasis on controlling costs while strengthening our revenue growth.

All of which has without a doubt been tough for our teams.

But as I’ve dug in with leaders across Riot, it’s become clear to all of us that these changes aren’t enough.

We have to do more to focus our business and center our efforts on the things that drive the most player value – the things that are truly worth players’ time.

Dylan Jadeja, Riot Games CEO

Jadeja mentioned that the company had been trying to control costs throughout the last several months but ultimately failed, forcing it to lay off a chunk of its workforce. However, because of the layoff, the Legends of Runterra team was also downsized due to the low financial performance of the game.

Shutting Down Riot Forge

Riot Forge | Credit: Riot Games
Riot Forge | Credit: Riot Games

Mentioning Riot Forge, Jadeja said that the company will now focus on its current games, including League of Legends, VALORANT, Teamfight Tactics, and Wild Rift. Riot Forge will be shut down because Jadeja no longer views it as “central to our strategy going forward.”

Jadeja clarified that even though Riot Forge shuts down, the players can still experience single-player games. Moreover, Jadeja added that Riot Games will work on single-player titles in the future “if the right project comes along.”

Wild Rift has a Prime Gaming Loot now as Riot has expanded their partnership with Amazon.

Riot has tried to push as many giveaways and rewards to players as possible for a while now. League of Legends has seen most of the push with more game events. Their Prime Gaming capsule is amongst the more popular giveaways for Amazon Prime.

Wild Rift has been quite popular in the mobile gaming scene as well. As released a while back, it has seen many improvements and champions coming into the game. Patch 4.1 was the last one to be released, and it introduced many skins, items, champions, etc. This is all to give Wild Rift players something new in the patch cycles every time Riot rolls in major updates.

With all the content coming in Patch 4.1, Riot has expanded its partnership with Amazon. The Prime Gaming Loot is now being added to Wild Rift as there is a nice benefit coming for game players. Here is what we know so far.

What is Prime Gaming

Prime Gaming is a monthly subscription that allows subscribers to get exclusive in-game Loot, free games, free access to Twitch, and all the benefits of Amazon Prime in one deal. It allows players to get exclusive stuff from one subscription, and it is worth it.

Prime Gaming is giving away exclusive Loot to multiple Riot games now as they have struck a new deal with Amazon. Wild Rift is also part of the roster to earn in-game Loot through the subscription.

Wild Rift Prime Gaming Loot (January 2024)

A Wild Rift Prime Gaming Random Bauble Chest has been added to the rewards collection for players to redeem off of the subscription. This is a small reward compared to the League of Legends PC version, as this will hopefully be expanded at some point in time.

The Random Bauble Chest will consist of a random bauble from the list available in Wild Rift. The Random Recall Chest will be available until February 14, 2024.

Here are all the Wild Rift Prime Gaming rewards for this month:

  • Random Recall Chest

How To Link Amazon Prime & Riot Games Account

The first step to getting the Loot is to link the Riot Games Account with the Amazon Prime Account. Here is how you can link both of these accounts.

  1. Go To The Prime Gaming Website.
  2. Login or create a Prime Gaming account with the subscription active.
  3. Find the game you’d like to redeem Loot for using the Search Prime Gaming text field or simply scrolling through the available options.
  4. Select and Click League of Legends: Wild Rift.
  5. Follow any prompts that come up, and then select your preferred Riot account.
  6. Select the Prime Gaming Loot.
  7. Done.

The rewards are based on having an Amazon Prime subscription, but you can also claim the 7-day free trial to claim the rewards. You can only do this once.

How To Claim The Rewards

To claim the rewards, just drop onto the Prime Gaming website and select League of Legends: Wild Rift. After that, log in to your Prime Gaming account and redeem your Prime Gaming loot. The rewards can only be claimed once per account and cannot be transferred.

When Will Prime Gaming Loot Drop Next?

If the previous system of Prime Gaming Loot for Riot games stays true, we should expect to see a new one from February 15, 2024. However, that will be the last Prime Gaming Loot so grab them while you still can.

For now, enjoy the Prime Gaming Random Recall Chest as Riot will explore avenues to reward players more after Prime Gaming Loots are over.

With Wild Rift’s new patch, Riot has provided some new updates about the lore and the storytelling in the game.

Last year, we got a lot of new content in Wild Rift. These include new champions, rune systems, game modes, pet systems, cosmetics, etc. Compared to prior years, 2023 was by far the most significant year when it came to gameplay.

Besides gameplay, the lore side of League of Legends is as extensive as ever. There are people who extensively follow the Runeterra lore and universe without playing any of the games.

Typically, these lore contents either come in League of Legends or Legends of Runeterra. But in recent years. We have seen some lore-related content in Wild Rift. However, these lore-related contents were very inconsistent from game to game. For example, in the Ruination event on PC, we got a visual novel. In Wild Rift, on the other hand, we can still talk to various champions about the event. However, they would just talk about what happened during the event instead of experiencing it.

Similarly, other significant events are only provided with missions and less proper storytelling. But this year, Riot has mentioned in a dev log that they will have one proper continuity for Runeterra. And to continue this tradition, there will be more updates coming for Wild Rift.

Read more: Wild Rift Glorious Crown Xin Zhao Skin.

League of Legends Wild Rift: Lore Update

This Wild Rift dev log was presented by Riot Meddler, head of League Studios. One of the first things he mentioned was that the League of Legends universe will follow one shared canon. This should help players become familiar with the universe easily.

As stated before, Wild Rift’s past storytelling events have been very inconsistent. And Riot has addressed this issue. He has mentioned that the upcoming events in Wild Rift will follow the same story and themes as the rest of the League of Legends-related games.

Then he mentioned that the Wild Rift team is now looking forward to revisiting some old stories and expanding on them where necessary.

Afterward, he talks about the upcoming Arcane season 2. We have already talked about that in detail. But the important part is that we are getting an Arcane-related character in League of Legends. And that character is Ambessa Medarda. Even though we already know about it, the new information is that she is confirmed to be coming out in Wild Rift as well. However, no specific release date is given. Riot Meddler has confirmed that we are getting an Arcane-focused Wild Rift patch at the end of the year. This will contain a lot of Arcane-focused content. So we might see Ambessa Medarda released at that time.

The last information we got is that there will be fewer region-specific events and more global events that everyone can enjoy. With that, everyone can enjoy the same content.

With that said, this year is expected to be a massive year for Wild Rift, and we are all here for it.

Now, if you reach Guardian IV in the legendary ladder, then you will get Glorious Armada Olaf for free.

Alongside all of these, the ranked season 12 will also start in the same patch. And for the ranked reward, Riot has revealed Glorious Crown Xin Zhao skin. Here’s how you can get this skin.

With the new Wild Rift patch 5.0 on the horizon, Riot has revealed a new game mode called Double Cast.

Game modes are a major part of both League of Legends and Wild Rift. Currently, there are two permanent game modes, Summoner’s Rift and ARAM (Howling Abyss).

Besides these two game modes, we get myriads of limited-time modes that change drastically how you play the game. For example, on URF, cooldowns don’t really exist, and you can cast your abilities as much as you want. On One for All, the entire team will be drafted the same champion.

In the last patch, 4.4, Riot released the long-awaited Arena game mode in Wild Rift. In this mode, instead of 5v5, players will compete in a 2v2v2v2 where the last team standing wins. This game mode features unique mechanics like Augments, Cameos, etc.

With that said, in the first patch of 2024, Riot will be releasing a new game mode in Wild Rift called Double Cast. Here’s everything you need to know.

Wild Rift Upcoming Game Mode: Double Cast

Double Cast is a game mode that is a hybrid between standard Summoner’s Rift and URF. In this mode, Once you cast your abilities, there will be a slight window where you can cast your ability again, thus Double Cast.

And if you are an auto attacker who doesn’t rely on abilities, then no worries. In this mode, after auto-attacking a certain amount of time, your next auto will be cast twice automatically. Think of it like Master Yi’s passive.

This game mode will be similar to more URF but less chaotic. But if you want a faster-paced Summoner’s Rift but don’t like URF, then Double Cast might be the perfect game mode for you.

Release Date

Double Cast will be released on Wild Rift on Patch 5.0, scheduled for January 18, 2024.

Since patch 5.0 is not that far away, Riot has revealed all of the upcoming skins of this update.

Wild Rift 4.4 was the last major update we got in 2023. As it was the last significant update of the year, it was also the biggest. Regarding champions, we got Fiddlesticks, Sivir, and Zyra on this update. Additionally, Zyra also got some new visual updates specifically for Wild Rift, although we can expect to get it on PC very soon.

We also got some new items, reworks, and skins, and most importantly, the Arena game mode finally arrived in Wild Rift. And it was as much of a success in Wild Rift as it was in PC.

With that said, since Patch 5.0 is on the horizon, Riot has revealed everything that will be coming in this update. In this patch, we are getting three new champions, many new recognizable items from PC, new game modes, and, for the current topic, new skins.

Here are all the skins confirmed to be coming in Wild Rift patch 5.0.

Wild Rift Patch 5.0: Release Date

Some of the skins are expected to be released on Wild Rift Patch 5.0, scheduled for January 18, 2024.

One thing to note is that not all skins will be released at the same time. Most of these skins will be released on minor patches such as patches 5.0a, 5.0b, or 5.0c. Their exact date isn’t confirmed, but from past updates, they are expected to release these patches weeks after the major patch’s release. But we should be getting these skins sooner rather than later.
