Some Death Timer changes have popped up in LoL PBE as Riot seems to be testing them out.

Riot has been making a bunch of changes to League of Legends in Season 14. Systematic changes have been the name of the game as everything is being improved and spiced up. With a tug-of-war going on with balance, Riot continues to try out new things.

Thus, more Death Timer changes must be coming to League of Legends as it is being tested on PBE. Here is what we know so far.

Death Timer Changes

As revealed by Spideraxe, Riot is testing out some early game Death Timer changes, making them longer. The changes are as follows.

  • Level 1 Death Timer: 6 seconds >>> 10 seconds.
  • Level 2 Death Timer: 6 seconds >>> 10 seconds.
  • Level 3 Death Timer: 8 seconds >>> 12 seconds.
  • Level 4 Death Timer: 8 seconds >>> 12 seconds.
  • Level 5 Death Timer: 10 seconds >>> 14 seconds.
  • Level 6 Death Timer: 12 seconds >>> 16 seconds.
  • Level 7 Death Timer: 18 seconds >>> 20 seconds.
  • Level 8 Death Timer: 21 seconds >>> 25 seconds.
  • Level 9 Death Timer: 26 seconds >>> 28 seconds.
  • Level 10 and Above Death Timers: Unchanged.

Numbers don’t do the changes justice as this could change the whole dynamic of the game. Longer Death Timers mean that an untimely death costs way more and enemies can take more advantages out of it.

Thus, this forces players to play safer and slower, thus changing average game times and more. The meta will likely shift as well.

While all that said, we do not know when Riot will ship these changes as there is no timeline provided. Hopefully, we will know about that soon.

Riot mentioned a while back that a secret VGU is coming and new leaks are saying that Viktor will get the VGU.

With Arcane Season 2 on the horizon, Riot is preparing for the TV series in more than one way. Different games of the same universe will get their shine as they introduce new characters and more.

We already know of Ambessa Mederda being the next champion in League of Legends and should be released around the time Arcane Season 2 rolls in. Also, Riot had already said there was going to be a VGU for a champion and that might be Viktor as new leaks suggest. Here is what we know so far.

Potential Viktor VGU

As per usual, the primary leaker of League of Legends, BigBadBear, unveiled this new piece of information. Also, it is always best to take a grain of salt as I personally do so.

However, it would be unfair to deny the possibility that Riot is looking in this direction. Considering Riot already ruled out Singed previously, there were not a whole lot of characters that would fit the description for Riot to have to change appearances due to Arcane.

Multiple characters for the TV series are accurately depicted with just Arcane skin versions coming out. Going down the line of Viktor getting the VGU suggests that they are looking to make changes to a champion that has had a lot of retconning with Arcane.

Hextech has changed in terms of lore and Viktor is probably going to follow suit. As it is expected to be a VGU, only the Visuals should change and the character abilities will remain.

But Riot has always reserved their opinions of changing up a few things but Viktor does not seem to need addressing on the gameplay front.

Again, this is a rumor and we very well could have a different character getting the VGU instead. For now, Viktor is the primary recipient as suggested by the leak.

Riot is going to make some updates to Swain in League of Legends as we might be getting a mini-rework.

It has been a minute since Riot has come out with a rework of a champion. The last time we got such changes was the Corki update in Patch 14.10 to turn him into an AD character.

Since then, Riot has not rolled out any rework level changes even though significant adjustments rolled out in League of Legends. But it is a well-known fact that Riot is always testing behind the scenes to change things they do not like.

This seems to be where they are going with Swain as Riot is going to make some hefty changes. Here is what we know so far.

Upcoming Swain Update

While Riot has not yet completely revealed the new Swain changes, they gave us an insight into what is being worked on. A lot of it is changing up his playstyle while giving him some reliability changes. The prospective changes are as follows.

  • Reducing Dependencies on Items during his Ult
  • Increasing reliability for abilities for both laning and support. Buffing Q for solo lane and E for supports.
  • Improving the ultimate to give more potent damage in shorter duration skirmishes.

Essentially, Riot is trying to make Swain more reliable as a champion. His effectiveness has always relied on items to help him out sustain enemies in fights. Also, his kit is designed for longer team fights, so that puts Swain in a niche.

Thus, Riot is changing a lot of those dependencies and attributes in order to make him more reliable in two separate roles. In theory, this sounds like a great idea for a champion who is struggling to find relevance at the highest levels.

However, the problem arises when Riot does too much (Aurelion Sol CGU) and they have to spend the next patches and so to balance that out. Riot still hasn’t found the right balance for ASol and that should say a lot.

Hopefully, Riot irons out the details and lands at a place where Swain will be strong, and only minor nerfs/buffs will be required to keep him in a good state.

In a long dev post, Riot has unveiled their upcoming changes in Ranked for LoL Patch 14.15.

Since Riot announced last year that 2024 will be a three Split Ranked system for League of Legends, it was an interesting decision. Using that as a base, they have reworked the ability to make gameplay changes, future adaptations and more.

Riot has been closely monitoring the Ranked system as further iterations to the Ranked systems are coming. Here is all that Riot has revealed so far.

Ranked Changes Patch 14.15

There are multiple changes coming to Ranked as Riot is attacking issues on different fronts. Let’s talk about each of these changes briefly and understand why Riot is going down this route.

New Ranked Requirement For New Accounts

As the heading says, Riot is changing or rather adjusting the requirement to play Ranked with a new account. Firstly, they are changing the requirement from playing 10 games of any non-Ranked games to playing 10 Summoner’s Rift Normal games.

As Riot Phroxzon explained, a lot of the new accounts are using ARAMs and other game modes to circumvent the requirement and jump into ranked. That goes against the idea of why the rule was placed in the beginning, so Riot is making adjustments to it with a simple requirement change.

Queue Declining

Riot has been addressing queue issues for a while with changes to Queue Dodging, Punishments, and the like. However, one thing that is being abused right now is the Decline Button Abuse. This is where players are actively declining queues consecutively.

This has been deemed as a disruptive behavior by Riot and rightfully so. It causes quite a few problems for other players looking for queues as they are constantly in this cycle of finding people for their matchmaking ELO. To address this, Riot is going to roll out the following measures.

  • The number of declines is going to be reduced without getting a lockout.
  • Changes to how declines are counted and work in a party.
  • Increasing lockout for players who are declining multiple times in a row.

So the first two are pretty straightforward, Riot is just reducing how many declines you can do in a row without getting punishment. So if players decline multiple times (more than 2), then Riot will lock the player out of the queue itself.

The specifics and exact numbers are still unclear and I am expecting Riot to wait until the Patch notes come out to unveil the details of these changes. As for what I think, these changes have been a long time coming and we should expect Riot to keep working on this space consistently.

After the big Patch 14.14, Riot is looking forward to the next update. No doubt Patch 14.14 has given us a lot of content to peruse through. Swarm is a massive hit albeit some problems cropping up for it.

As Riot keeps marching forward, they assess their goals for balance in League of Legends. This time, there is a huge focus going into bot lane and many adjustments are on the horizon. Let’s talk about all the changes coming to League of Legends soon.

Release Date

League of Legends Patch 14.15 is expected to be released on Wednesday, July 31, 2024.

LoL Patch 14.15 release time and server maintenance:

  • NA: 3:00 AM PT
  • EUW: 5:00 UK time
  • EUNE: 3:00 CET

Champion Buffs

Let’s first start off with the Buffs. There are three champions getting the nod, with Varus getting the big chunk of the changes.

Talon

Riot is adjusting the Dash range with Talon for short-range targets or otherwise.

  • Q – Noxian Diplomacy:
    • Now always Dashes toward the target.
    • Short-Range Dashes are far less now.

Varus

Riot is forcing the issue with Varus as they are trying to make a bunch of adjustments to change the skill max for him.

  • Base Stats:
    • Attack Damage: 57 >>> 59.
  • Passive – Living Vengeance:
    • Minion Kill Attack Speed: 10% (at all ranks) >>> 10/15/20% (levels 1/7/13).
    • Champion Takedown AD and AP Increase: 15% of Attack Speed >>> 25% of Attack Speed.
    • Attack Speed Cap: 2.76 >>> 3.0.
  • W – Blighted Quiver:
    • On Hit Damage: 7/14/21/28/35 (+ 35% AP) >>> 5/10/15/20/25 (+ 35% AP).

Yasuo

Riot is giving a damage injection to Yasuo, while also improving his laning phase through other means as well.

  • Base Stats:
    • Armor: 30 >>> 32.
  • E – Sweeping Blade:
    • Damage: 60/70/80/90/100 (+ 20% Bonus AD)(+ 60% AP) >>> 70/85/100/115/130 (+ 20% Bonus AD)(+ 60% AP).
    • Stack Damage Scaling: 15 – 25% (based on level) per stack >>> 25% per stack.
    • Maximum Stack Damage Scaling: 60 – 100% (based on level) >>> 100%.

Champion Nerfs

There are more Nerfs than Buffs in this patch with the latest champion Aurora getting dinged. However, the biggest highlight is the Shyvana changes. Here are all of the nerfs.

Aurelion Sol

Riot has not officially mentioned the Aurelion Sol changes but this was gathered from the PBE changes thus far. Take this with a grain of salt and the section will be updated when we get more info.

  • Q – Breath of Light:
    • Mana Cost Per Second: 30/35/40/45/50 >>> 35/40/45/50/55.
  • W – Astral Flight:
    • Range: 1500/1600/1700/1800/1900 (+ 7.5 x Stardust stacks) >>> 1500 (+ 7.5 x Stardust stacks).
  • E – Singularity:
    • Mana Cost: 80 >>> 90.

Aurora

While Riot did not add it in the official preview, Riot developer, Squad5, posted the changes over on X.

  • Passive – Spirit Abjuration:
    • Realm Hopper Bonus Movement Speed: 5 – 10% (based on level)(+ 3% per 100 AP)(+ 5 – 20% (based on active Spirits)) >>> 5 – 8.5% (based on level)(+ 3% per 100 AP)(+ (2 + 0.03% AP) (based on active Spirits)).
  • Q – Twofold Hex:
    • Second Activation of Q can no longer miss its original target.
  • W – Across the Veil:
    • Invisibility breaks on auto attacks during launch of attacks instead of pre-attack.
    • Cooldown: 18/17/16/15/14 seconds >>> 22/21/20/19/18 seconds.
  • E – The Weirding:
    • Jumpback duration: 800 speed >>> 150 (+ 2 x Movement Speed).
    • Now has a manual spell buffering system while mid-jump.
  • R – Between Worlds:
    • Now has a manual spell buffering system while mid-jump.
    • No longer locks camera when using the warp.
    • Damage: 250/375/500 (+ 65% AP) >>> 200/325/450 (+ 60% AP).

Ezreal

A small nerf to Ezreal to reduce the AD Ratio on his Missiles.

  • Q – Mystic Shot:
    • Damage: 20/45/70/95/120 (+ 140% AD)(+ 15% AP) >>> 20/45/70/95/120 (+ 130% AD)(+ 15% AP).

Leona

As a Support, Leona is doing too much damage. Thus, Riot is bringing some nerfs on her damage numbers.

  • Passive – Sunlight:
    • Damage: 32 – 168 (based on level) >>> 32 – 151 (based on level).
  • W – Eclipse:
    • Damage: 55/90/125/160/195 (+ 40% AP) >>> 55/85/115/145/175 (+ 40% AP).

Shyvana

As for the totality of the nerfs, Riot is really bonking Shyvana with the nerf hammer. Overall, her E damage is being reduced for both Human and Dragon forms even though the numbers are being shifted around quite a bit.

With the new changes, it seems Riot is pushing for more of a Hybrid build set as opposed to mostly AP.

  • E – Flame Breath:
    • Damage: 60/100/140/180/220 (+ 40% AD)(+ 90% AP) >>> 85/125/165/205/245 (+ 50% AD)(+ 80% AP).
  • R – Dragon’s Descent:
    • Flame Breath Bonus Damage: 75/90/105/120/135 (+ 30% AD)(+ 30% AP) >>> 75/90/105/120/135 (+ 50% AD)(+ 20% AP).
    • Damage of Time over Full Duration: 240 – 480 (based on level)(+ 40% AD)(+ 80% AP) >>> 240 – 480 (based on level)(+ 120% AD)(+ 80% AP).

Champion Adjustments

There are a ton of adjustments coming to this path from Assassins to Mages, and so on. Without further ado, let’s jump right into it.

Akali

There are some interesting changes coming to Akali. Riot is making big adjustments in her R – Perfect Executions. Also, the cooldown for R is increasing early in the game and her W is getting a better scaling cooldown.

  • W – Twilight Shroud:
    • Cooldown: 20 seconds >>> 20/19/18/17/16 seconds.
  • R – Perfection Execution:
    • Cooldown: 100/80/60 seconds >>> 120/90/60 seconds.
    • First Activation Damage: 80/220/360 (+ 50% Bonus AD)(+ 30% AP) >>> 110/220/330 (+ 50% Bonus AD)(+ 30% AP).
    • Second Activation Damage: 60/130/200 (+ 30% AP) >>> 70/140/210 (+ 30% AP).

Cassiopeia

A bunch of mana changes are coming to Cassiopeia across the board. Also, some AP ratio changes are being added.

  • Base Stats:
    • Mana: 350 >>> 400.

The details of the game mode are not shared in this article but let’s talk about when Swarm is coming out in League of Legends.
