The footage of a cancelled futuristic Call of Duty developed by Neversoft Studios has surfaced online.
Call of Duty moved to the modern era with the release of Modern Warfare (2019). The game rebooted the MW franchise under Infinity Ward and left the boots of the CoD behind. While futuristic CoDs were fun to play, players were getting sick of it.
Call of Duty Ghosts was released in 2013 which was a boots-on-the-ground CoD. Although initially, the game did not receive appreciation, over time, it has become an underrated masterpiece. In a recent leak, it was discovered that a futuristic CoD called NX1 was supposed to take the place of Ghosts, but it ended up getting cancelled.

Cancelled Futuristic CoD’s Leaked Footage
I a recent tweet, a leaker shared a look at Neversoft Studios’ project titled “NX1” which was reportedly a cancelled game. It was supposed to be released in place of Ghosts back in 2013, but it was later shelved due to internal reasons.
The leaked footage shows that the game is a boots of the ground take in space. The gameplay has huge similarities with Infinite Warfare. Moreover, the main menu resembles the Ghosts menu, which was changed with Modern Warfare (2019).
The last 4 CoD titles took a more grounded approach, and it seems like the 2024 title Call of Duty Black Ops Gulf War will also go on the same path. A futuristic CoD title might be on the way in the coming years, however, no news or intel regarding it has been shared by Activision or affiliated studios yet.
While we all wish to play a futuristic CoD again, it is unlikely that Activision will move in that direction following the poor performance of many previous futuristic CoD titles.
