Warzone 2.0 is Activision’s current live-service title. However, players remain confused about if they can play Warzone 1 in 2023.

Call of Duty Warzone 1 is Activision’s most ambitious take on the battle royale genre. The game came into being as a replacement for Treyarch’s Blackout, which is a paid game mode. However, Warzone 1 is a F2P title that has earned its place as one of the top BR games.

Warzone 1 has had a long run of 2 years, but the game finally received a sequel of the same name. Warzone 2.0 is the newest BR title part of the new MW2 and CoD HQ. While the new title remains the main focus, Warzone 1 is still live. Here’s everything you need to know about Warzone 1 in 2023.

Can You Still Play Warzone 1 in 2023?

Warzone 1 is still available as a free-to-play title. However, there is a catch. Players who have played the game before November 16 can play the game for free as a standalone title. As for new players, they have to buy Modern Warfare (2019) to play Warzone Caldera.

Players can access the Caldera map in Warzone 1 as of now. Fortune’s Keep and Rebirth Island have been removed from the game following Warzone 2.0’s launch. The previous progression for returning players remains intact. However, there is no cross-progression for MW2 and Warzone 2.0.

Warzone 1 has cemented its place as one of the best BR titles. However, players and the devs have shifted their attention to Warzone 2.0, which has received the same appreciation as its predecessor.
