A44 Games, the studio behind the recently launched title Flintlock: The Siege of Dawn, is reportedly facing internal clashes, with sources indicating that mass layoffs are close.

We got the news right after the developer’s announcement that the game had over, 500k players since its launch.

According to Steam Charts, the peak concurrent player count for Flintlock on Steam reached only 541 since its release. The number is really low, and it falls below the industry benchmarks.

Layoffs Already Started in A44 Games

According to our sources, the staff members have already begun to leave the New Zealand-based studio. This report directly contradicts the positive player engagement figures shared by A44 Games.

I do agree the 500k player milestone is impressive on paper, but actual sales are believed to be lower. Data from Steam Charts, a third-party tracking service for the popular PC gaming platform Steam, show that the peak player count since its release is only 541.

A44 Games has not yet commented on the reports of staff departures or potential layoffs. The studio’s future plans, including any ongoing support for Flintlock: The Siege of Dawn or development of new projects, remain uncertain at this time.

According to journalist Jeff Grubb, Microsoft and Xbox are planning to tease Gears 6 at the Xbox Showcase later this year. During the Kinda Funny Xbox podcast ‘Xcast,’ Grubb stated that the game would be announced this Summer.

Tom Warren from The Verge later confirmed these claims and tweeted Grubb’s clip, stating that the information was correct. The Coalition has been working on the upcoming Gears of War game for over a year—generally believed to be Gears 6. Microsoft will have plenty of games to be revealed at the Xbox Summer Showcase.

After Grubb and Warren, another renowned insider NateTheHate, he shared similar statements about Gears 6 on ResetEra. Nate stated that he would be surprised if Gears 6 wasn’t showcased at the Xbox event, and he thinks that it will ultimately show off the potential of the current generation console—much like the original Gears of War did for the Xbox 360.

In addition, another industry insider named Shinobi602 commented on the same ResetEra post and suggested that Gears 6 will boast incredible visuals, claiming that “people aren’t ready.”

According to Jeff Grubb from Giant Bomb, Sony might be hosting a PlayStation Showcase or State of Play in May. Grubb revealed on the Giant Bombcast livestream podcast that ESRB has classified Konami’s upcoming Silent Hill 2 remake, and the release date for the game could be announced at the upcoming PlayStation event.

I have heard that there will be a PlayStation… something—either a State of Play or a Showcase—in May, so this is probably going to be there.

According to renowned leaker Dusk Golem, Capcom is planning to release Monster Hunter Wilds sometime in Q1 2025. Dusk Golem has a long record of sharing video game information before it has been made public. The leaker shared the news on Monster Hunter Wilds on his private Discord server, but it was later spotted on Reddit.

The leaker claimed that the game has been in development since early 2019, not long after Monster Hunter: World was released. Later, he mentioned that “many of the World’s abandoned concepts are here” and that “the big Godzilla monster,” thought to be Zorah Magdaros from World, would be making a comeback.

According to Kotaku‘s report, sources with knowledge of Grand Theft Auto 6 production informed that Grand Theft Auto 6 could be delayed until 2026, despite Rockstar’s intention to release it in early 2025. Delaying the release of GTA 6 to 2026 is currently considered a “fallback plan” if something goes wrong with production at Rockstar.

In late February, it was reported that Rockstar Games had asked all employees to return to the office five days a week starting in April, as Grand Theft Auto 6 was entering the final stages of development. Rockstar decided to bring the employees back to the office because the publisher was worried about security breaches and finish development for the game.

Rockstar Games is currently working hard on the highly anticipated game, which will be set in Vice City—a fictional version of Miami, Florida. The game is set to release on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series sometime in 2025, which is still Rockstar’s targeted release window.

However, the anonymous source told Kotaku that production for the game is falling behind, and the leadership at Rockstar are getting nervous because the publisher might miss the 2025 window. Furthermore, Rockstar asking all the employees to return to the office in April might be a big reason, as the publisher wants to avoid the release delay.

Although Rockstar is working hard to release the game in early 2025, the source revealed that the publisher will likely miss the release window and could consider a Fall 2025 release for GTA 6. However, delaying the game to 2026 is still on the table as an “emergency” option for Rockstar if necessary.

According to a new tweet from reputable leaker Dusk Golem, Resident Evil 9 will be developed on the RE Engine’s new open-world technology that Capcom used in the recently released Dragon’s Dogma 2. In addition, the leaker also claimed that Monster Hunter Wilds is also using the same technology, which is currently scheduled for release in 2025.

Dusk Golem, who tweets under the username AestheticGamer1, said that Capcom wants to keep the core elements of the Resident Evil 9 and Monster Hunter Wilds franchises while building upon them with new open-world technology, similar to Dragon’s Dogma 2.

Last October, Dusk Golem revealed several pieces of information on the latest instalment of Resident Evil on Discord. He suggested that Resident Evil 9 has the largest budget of the series, and the game will not be released until 2025. This would explain why the game’s development is taking considerably longer than expected. Moreover, developing an open-world game with a new engine would also take longer for the series.

Dusk Golem added that the upcoming Resident Evil 9 will not be a direct sequel to Resident Evil Village, but it will be an all-new game bringing an end to the current storyline and a new start to the series. According to reports from Insider Gaming, the leaked specs for the PlayStation 5 Pro earlier today were real, and Sony is reportedly targeting a 2024 holiday release. On March 15, the YouTube channel Moore’s Law is Dead posted a video about leaked documents from Sony that showed the specs for the PlayStation 5 Pro. Later, Insider Gaming’s Tom Henderson confirmed that the leaked PS5 Pro specs document was real.

As per Insider Gaming’s report, the leaked document is from a PlayStation developer portal sent to first-party developers within Sony. Henderson’s report suggests that first-party PlayStation studios have been testing the PlayStation 5 Pro devkit since September last year, and third-party studios reportedly got access this January.

Sony has been developing the PlayStation 5 Pro under the codename ‘Trinity’, and the console will be targeting improved performance and consistent frames at 4K resolution. In addition, the Pro model will also introduce a new ‘Performance Mode’ for 8K resolution. Furthermore, the Pro model could come with a much more powerful GPU than the current PS5 models, which could be up to three times faster.

The leaked document also mentioned PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR), which is rumoured to be PlayStation’s machine learning for image upscaling, similar to Nvidia’s DLSS or AMD’s FSR. The PSSR will be able to upscale up to 8K resolution and improve ray tracing performance on the PlayStation 5 Pro.
