Rainbow Six Siege’s OG operator Recruit has finally been revamped, with Ubisoft introducing them as two new operators Striker and Sentry.

Rainbow Six Siege, Ubisoft’s AAA competitive FPS shooter, has experienced tremendous growth throughout the years since its launch in 2015. With the help of Jynxzi, the game received a huge boost in popularity in 2024, but Ubisoft failed to keep that up with the launch of Y9S2.

Year 9 Season 2 of Siege lacks in terms of new content, and the minor Recruit rework is highlighted as one of the big changes of the latest season. Here’s everything you need to know about the latest Rainbow Six Siege attacker Striker.

How to play Striker?

striker rainbow six siege guide

Striker is a 2-health 2-armour Attacker, who does not have any unique primary gadget. Instead, she has another ace up his sleeves, which you can find below.

Biography

“We earned the right to be here. Now we just have to earn the right to stay”

Rainbow’s Attack Recruits, known as Strikers, are a cornerstone of the institution and despite internal perception, are not a generic monolith of identical soldiers. Generally speaking, they are much more youthful than our experienced Specialists and Operators, but that doesn’t make them any less integral to the smooth running of our missions. Though all of these Recruits hail from the most elite of elite military and counter-terror institutions, they all know that Rainbow is a cut above and treat the organization with the respect and discipline it demands.

Although not full-fledged Operators, many Recruits have gone through trials by fire, like the survivors of Deimos’ attack on Tower. They performed valiantly, collaborating effectively with Vigil to down the helicopter that led the attack and took so many young lives. While this event was tragic, it was also a true test of field composure, leading one such survivor, Ram, to become a Specialist.

Note: While the official operator gender is undefined, Rainbow Six Fandom Wiki cites that “Striker seems to be a British female, while Sentry is an American male” which we used for this article.

Best Weapon Loadout

  • Primary Weapon: M4 (Assault Rifle), M249 (Light Machine Gun)
  • Secondary Weapon: 5.7 USG (Handgun), ITA12S (Shotgun)
  • Gadgets: Hard Breach Charge, Frag Grenade, Claymore, Breach Charge, Smoke Grenade, Stun Grenade, Impact Emp Grenade

Striker has two choices for her primary weapon: the M4 (Maverick’s AR) and the M249 (Capitão and Gridlock’s LMG). Both these guns are quite powerful in their own way, so picking one over the other depends on your playstyle. The M4 is a really good weapon in our eyes, because of its good damage stats (44 HP) and low vertical recoil, but the fire rate of 750 RPM is quite average.

On the other hand, the M249 LMG is a strong contender if you like to pre-fire a lot. In Rainbow Six Siege, it is a good practice to pre-fire common angles or spots to gain an advantage over your opponent. This LMG will assist you in doing so, and at the same time, you would need to reload less, which might save your life when dealing with multiple enemies.

However, I would still recommend picking the M4 over the M249 for a more comfortable experience, and the high fire rate surely helps in landing that one headshot.

Striker also has two options of secondary weapons to choose from: the 5.7 USG pistol and the ITA12S shotgun. Picking the secondary ITA12S shotgun is my recommended pick, as it will allow you to make rotations, break hatches and play vertically.

Gadgets

Striker is unlike any other Siege operator as he does not have a unique gadget of his own. However, he can instead bring two different secondary gadgets, allowing for some unique combination and gameplay.

From the multitude of secondary gadget options for attackers like Hard Breach Charge, Claymore, Frag Grenade, etc, Striker can pick any two. It is important to note that he cannot pick the same gadget twice, so don’t expect to bring two sets of Frag grenades (4x).

While this is similar to how Recruit was previously, now Striker (also Sentry) has access to all the gadget options. This allows for some new, unique Siege gameplay that was not possible below. For example, players can now solo breach reinforced walls by bringing Striker’s Impact Emp grenades and Hard-Breach charge, a huge breakthrough for solo-queue Siege players. There are other combinations that you could try out such as using Claymores to cover yourself while you use soft Breach Charges for vertical plays or clearing anti-projectile defender gadgets using Stun and Frag grenades. These tactics were not possible before, so even if Striker might not have a unique gadget, he brings new ideas into the mix.

How to play Sentry?

sentry rainbow six siege guide

Similar to Striker, Sentry is a 2-health 2-armour operator but on the defending side. Sentry also does not have any unique primary ability/gadget, but the combination of the secondary gadgets does create some exciting options.

Biography

“We eat, sleep and dream Rainbow during training. And one day, it’ll pay off.”

The current crop of Defense Recruits, also known as Sentries, in Rainbow are undergoing a revamped training regimen and finding their place in an organization that needs their drive, adaptability and resilience. Besides adding bodies to larger-scale defensive missions, Recruits are the foundation of Rainbow. Their ranks may seem faceless and nameless at times, but that won’t last forever, as the organization will often promote from within, drawing a Recruit up into being a Specialist.

Best Weapon Loadout

  • Primary Weapon: Commando 9 (Assault Rifle), M870 (Shotgun)
  • Secondary Weapon: C75 AUTO (Machine Pistol), Super Shorty (Shotgun)
  • Gadgets: Barbed Wire, Bulletproof Camera, Deployable Shield, Observation Blocker, Impact Grenade, Nitro Cell, Proximity Alarm

For his primary weapon, Sentry can either choose between Commando 9 (AR) or the M870 shotgun. Both these weapons are of different types. On one hand, you have the Commando 9 (one of Mozzie’s guns), which is a solid option with good damage, but a moderate rate of fire compared to SMGs in the game.

On the other hand, you have the M870 shotgun (Jager/Bandit Shotgun), which can land a heavy punch in a short distance. However, as it is a shotgun, it will limit your ability to take longer-range gunfights and force you to play in a different style, either very aggressive on roam or holding tight angles on or near objective.

So the recommendation is to use the Commando 9, as it will be more reliable and useful in the majority of rounds, and allow you to play more freely. But the choice is up to you.

Gadget

As stated earlier, Sentry also doesn’t bring any unique ability. So just like Striker, Sentry can pick any two secondary gadgets but from the defender gadget options (not of the same type). With this operator, you can try out solo strategies and not depend on other teammates, which is a relief for many online Ranked players. Some effective combos include Nitro Cell along with Proximity Alarms, Bulletproof Cameras + Observation Blockers, and more.

To elaborate on the ‘solo way’ to get some easy kills, you can place Proximity Alarms near windows and take down Attackers vaulting in using a Nitro Cell pre-placed below. The proximity alarm will give off a sound, or you can even see the points notification of the alarm turning on, and blow the Attacker at that moment for an easy kill.

Should you pick Striker and Sentry?

The revamped operators Striker and Sentry are playable now in all playlists, so bringing them makes total sense. These operators are especially useful for Solo plays, as coordination is not the best in the lower ranks of Rainbow Six Siege.

Both Striker and Sentry are unlocked and available to be picked for all players.

Ubisoft has announced Rainbow Six Siege’s latest Designer’s notes for mid-season update Y9S2.3, which is set to introduce some big balancing changes to the game in the upcoming patch.

Rainbow Six Siege’s Patch Y9S2.3 will be released soon, and the developers have just shared a sneak peek of what is about to drop with the new update.

There are a lot of interesting buffs and nerfs in this latest patch, with Echo receiving his ACOG back, while Melusi and Wamai lose theirs. On the other hand, under-picked operators like Ela and Gridlock are also getting buffs.

R6S Patch Y9S2.3

Azami

azami kiba barrier

The patch kicks off with another nerf to Azami’s Kiba Barriers. In Y9S1, Ubisoft made the Kiba barriers susceptible to bullet damage; however, the amount of damage certain weapons dealt was too low, so the devs increased the damage later. Now, the devs are once again increasing the damage received by Azami’s barriers for almost all types of guns.

Echo

Echo is once again travelling back to his past self, with him becoming a 3 Armor 1 Speed operator. To help improve with this speed change, Echo will be getting back the magnified scopes for the MP5SD.

Melusi

While many players would think Melusi is currently doing fine in terms of overall strength, Ubisoft has noticed that the magnified scopes on her MP5 made her too effective in terms of gunplay. So to counter this Ubisoft is removing magnified scopes from this weapon.

To help balance this nerf, she is getting an additional Banshee Device (4 from 3) and the ITA12S secondary shotgun.

Some other changes in this patch include:

  • Buck: Gonne-6 removed
  • Ela: Added Impact Grenades. Removed Observation Blocker.
  • Gridlock: Trax Stinger damage increased to 15hp per second in movement (from 10).
  • Wamai: Magnified Scopes removed from MP5K.

Mute Polymath Elite Set

At first glance, you might think that the new Mute Elite is a character brought down from Ubisoft’s AAA game franchise Watch Dogs. However, that is not the case here, as it is just a normal Elite with DeadSec vibes.

The Mute Polymath elite bundle includes:

  • Mute Polymath Uniform and Headgear
  • Victory dance
  • Gadget skin for Mute Jammer
  • Operator cards
  • Legendary weapon skins for the M590A1, the MP5K, SMG-11, and the P226 MK 25 Handgun
  • The Elite Chibi Charm

You can now purchase the Mute Polymath Rule Elite set directly from the in-game store for 1800 R6 Credits. If you own the Premium Battle Pass, you will receive a 10% discount.

Mute is an all-rounder when it comes to Siege’s defending operators, as he can deny intel, block hard-breaching gadgets, and much more. He has a very good loadout with a shotgun option and even a Nitro Cell.

Rainbow Six Siege Y9S2 Operation New Blood has been officially announced, and it is bringing Recruits as a playable operator in all playlists, nerf to both Solis and Fenrir and more subtle changes to the game. Find the full patch notes below.

Ubisoft revealed the latest season of Rainbow Six Siege, titled Operation New Blood, during the Manchester Major.

While this new season did not generate much hype, it still brings some big balancing changes that will surely change the meta.

R6S Y9S2 Patch Notes

New Operators: Striker and Sentry

Siege’s Y9S2 is remastering the classic Recruit operator, and introducing them as two new operators: Striker (Attacker) and Sentry (Defender). These new operators don’t have any unique abilities or gadgets like other operators; however, they can bring any secondary gadgets available with some constraints.

The new operator Striker, for example, can pick both impact EMPs and secondary Hard-Breaching gadgets to breach reinforced surfaces without depending on others. This will specially come in handy for solo players, who do not play in a stack.

Solis Nerf

Image: Ubisoft

Solis has received a multitude of nerfs altogether that should put a heavy dent in her pick rate. Solis can no longer use her primary gadget during the prep phase, which was a huge annoyance for the Attackers. The duration of the sensor has been reduced to 10 seconds, and it must be at full charge to use. Even the range has been decreased to 12 meters. She has also lost her impact grenades, reducing her plant-denying ability even further.

Fenrir

rainbow six siege fenrir
Image: Ubisoft

Fenrir’s F-NATT Mines are no longer bulletproof, so Attackers can shoot them even when they are not activated. The number of Mines has also been reduced to 4, and he can activate two of them at a time. However, when a Dread Mine has been destroyed the activation ticket will no longer be wasted, so he can still use them to activate other Mines.

There are more changes coming with Rainbow Six Siege’s new Y9S2 Patch, such as Barbed wire dealing damage, Flashbang customization, a new map training playlist, and more. Read the full patch notes here.

Rainbow Six Siege Y9S2 is officially titled ‘Operation New Blood’. While this season surely has generated less hype than Y9S1, Siege players can still expect to see some great changes, such as Recruit rework, Siege Marketplace launch, and more.

Ubisoft already released some teasers on the new season, revealing the two new reworked Recruits: Striker and Sentry.

R6S Y9S2 Reveal Panel: Time and Where to Watch

Rainbow Six Siege Y9S2 Operation New Blood full reveal panel will take place during the Manchester Major on May 26 at 9:00 AM PT / 6:00 PM CET.

You can watch the reveal panel on http://twitch.tv/Rainbow6 and at https://www.youtube.com/@RainbowSixEsports. However, by watching on Twitch, Siege players will be able to earn a free Twitch Drop, which includes a charm.

The latest season of Rainbow Six Siege will introduce the Recruit rework, which will give players two new operators: one Attacker and one Defender. We can see from the teaser, the attacking recruit has two secondary gadgets: impact EMPs and a Hard-Breaching gadget to breach reinforced walls without the help of a teammate.

While the current recruit does have the loadout to bring two secondary gadgets, this combination of hard-breaching ability is not included. This change for solo-breaching power has not sit quite well with some Siege players, as Rainbow Six Siege is about teamwork and good communication.

The new season will also launch the much-awaited Siege Marketplace, which is currently in beta. So more players can now trade their skins for R6 Credits. Players can also expect to see balancing changes in the form of Fenrir and Solis nerf, but more changes are also expected. A new ‘Endless Drill’ map training playlist has also been teased by Ubisoft.

Ubisoft dropped Rainbow Six Siege’s Y9S1.3 Patch today, and it brings some big changes to impact grenades, and also slight changes to Azami, Lesion, and more.

The latest Rainbow Six Siege Y9S1.3 Patch was released today across all platforms, and it addresses some key issues with operators and secondary gadgets.

However, Ubisoft has stated that they don’t want to go overboard and will try out little changes and see how it reflect on their data.

R6S Y9S1.3 Patch Notes

Impact Grenade

One of the most impactful changes of this new patch is the nerf of Impact Grenade. The damage of the impact grenade has been brought down to 40hp from 60hp. Additionally, its explosion radius has been decreased to 2 meters from 3.

This change aims to reduce the killing potential of the Impact Grenades, as players were throwing both of their Impacts to down or kill an Attacker from safety, which is not how Ubisoft intended the grenades to be used. The reduced explosion radius also means that Impact tricking (destroying Hard-Breach gadgets with Impact Grenade) will now be much more difficult.

Azami

Azami’s Kiba barrier is also receiving some small adjustments. The Kiba barriers will now take a 10% increase in damage from High caliber Handguns, Revolvers, Medium caliber SMGs and ARs. For High caliber ARs and LMGs, damage has been increased by 5%.

Ubisoft noticed that the barriers were still taking a lot of bullets to get rid of, so these damage increases should make it a bit easier without making Azami too weak.

Lesion

lesion rainbow six siege
Image: Ubisoft

Lesion is currently the highest-picked defender, according to Ubisoft’s graph. To reduce a bit of Lesion’s power, Ubisoft has reduced the initial damage of Gu mines from 5 to 3hp. Moreover, the gadget refill time has been increased to 25 seconds from 20.

Lesion’s impact grenade has also been removed to make him less effective against Shields as his gadget is already a good counter. Observation Blocker will now replace the Impacts in his loadout.

Deimos is the latest operator to join Rainbow Six Siege in Y9S1 Operation Deadly Omen.

Rainbow Six Siege, a tactical first-person shooter developed by Ubisoft, has experienced tremendous growth throughout the years that it has existed. With the help of Jynxzi, the game received a huge boost in popularity in 2024, as it broke the concurrent peak-player record.

Deimos is the main antagonist in Rainbow Six Siege’s lore right now, and he just became a playable operator in Year 9 Season 1. He is a 2-speed, 2-health Attacker with a unique tracking device that he uses to instill fear in opponent’s hearts.

Here’s everything you need to know about this operator.

Deimos Operator Guide

r6s-y9s1-deimos

Biography

“I was there when Rainbow began. I’ll be there when it ends.”

Gerald Morris was born in Birmingham, Alabama. He was close to his godfather, a military veteran, who would sneak Morris off to Western matinees and gun ranges. Discovering sheriff Bass Reeves in a history book was a watershed moment for the young Morris, giving him an idol for years to come.

Morris spent significant periods with the Special Forces and the ATF. A standout, he eschewed promotions to hone his practical skills and complete an MS in Inorganic Chemistry. His role in dismantling the [REDACTED] criminal organization made him a priority recruit for Rainbow’s first iteration.

As the team’s demolitions expert and a cornerstone operator, Morris was key to its early successes. He was demoted from team lead when he became outspoken about the operational limitations that come with government oversight. He and fellow operator Daniel Bogart were thought killed in Operation [REDACTED].

The circumstances of that event have been called into question since Morris’ capture at Emerald Plains.

Psychological Report

Morris’ arrival has had a toxic effect on Specialist morale. Tensions are high.
I believe that his capture offers us a unique opportunity. On a personal level, to define who we are, who Rainbow is. And, more pressingly, access to intel that will identify those who supported him. Nothing can be more important than that. The clock is ticking.

I am concerned about Jordan. He has burdened himself with the responsibility for Rainbow’s failures. Speaking frankly as his friend, it is not his cross to bear. As operators in the field, there is little we could have done differently given the circumstances we faced.

This is the Deimos effect. Our trust in each other is being tested. Adding to the turmoil is an unspoken acknowledgement between Operators that the man in that cell is one of the best soldiers the Rainbow program ever produced. His skill is apparent in how he moves, how he speaks, and how he thinks. Before we became aware of his terrible actions, Morris was an aspirational figure, a legend. It is difficult to come to terms with.
I cannot shake what he said at Emerald Plains, “Rainbow is already dead.”
I’ve seen enough this past year to know it isn’t an empty threat. We have little to act on as he spends most of our interrogations in silence and this deadlock has led some to suggest what I consider a reckless gambit: involve Deimos in the mission against his backers. Who in their right mind would green light that initiative? And yet, suggesting this to him has produced our first instance of actionable intel.

Could what we need be obtained with him in the field? An impossible choice that has split Rainbow down the middle. Now, more than ever, we need the leadership of a Six.
We may not have a clear path forward, but I remain hopeful. Because the strength of Rainbow, the strength that has always defined us, comes from our shared purpose: to do whatever it takes to protect those who need protecting.

— Captain Yumiko “Hibana” Imagawa, Viperstrike Squad Leader

Best Weapon Loadout

Image: Ubisoft
  • Primary Weapon: AK-74M (Assault Rifle), M590A1 (Shotgun)
  • Secondary Weapon: .44 VENDETTA (Handgun)
  • Secondary Gadgets: Hard Breach Charge, Frag Grenade
  • Unique ability: Deathmark Tracker

Deimos has two options for his primary weapon: the AK-74M rifle and the M590A1 Shotgun. Both these guns are quite powerful in their own way, so picking one over the other depends on your playstyle and plan for that particular round. The AK-74M is a really good weapon in our eyes, because of its good damage stats (44 HP) and low vertical recoil, but the fire rate of 650 RPM is quite average.

On the other hand, the M590A1 Shotgun is considered as one of the best shotguns in the game, mostly used with Smoke and Mute. However, bringing the Shotgun will restrict you from taking long-range engagements where the AK-74M will be much more effective.

Deimos also brings a brand-new .44 VENDETTA handgun to Rainbow Six Siege, which has a special 1x scope. This new weapon adds more depth to the weapon choice and combination, as picking the Shotgun and the Vendetta is a viable choice. The Vendetta revolver lands a heavy punch with each shot and the recoil is also easy to control.

While it’s rare to run the shotgun on Attack, you can try it out if the map allows it and you plan on taking short-range fights and allowing you to create soft destructions. But for most players, I will recommend the AK-74M rifle, a reliable choice on all maps.

Secondary Gadget

Deimos has three secondary gadgets to choose from: the Hard Breach Charge and Frag Grenade. Your decision should be based on how you intend to play the round and the full team’s game plan. If you want to get hatches without depending on dedicated hardbreachers then you should pick those.

But as Deimos is mostly played to track and hunt down roamers, the Frag grenade is the most suited option for him, according to me. Although Frag grenades cannot be cooked now, you can still use them to move players out of a safe space or block a path for a defender, using the nade.

Unique Ability

Deimos’ primary gadget is called the ‘Deathmark Tracker‘. This gadget is a drone shaped like a small helicopter, inspired by Military technology. This small drone can travel anywhere and is used to hunt down defenders. Deimos can use his Deathmark gadget to track down the exact location of the enemies and he can use his tracker 3 times during a round. Once activated, the drone pings the live location of the defenders for 15 seconds, but there’s a catch.

When Deimos starts to track a defender, the defender’s location gets revealed with a live red ping. However, even Deimos’s location also gets revealed to that defender, but that location ping is not live and happens after a small interval similar to Jackal. Therefore, Deimos gets the edge in this duel. However, when the track is activated, Deimos will only be able to use his secondary the .44 VENDETTA, which only has 6 rounds of bullets.

To be able to activate his tracking gadget, the attacking team first needs to identify the operator in the defending team by red-pinging them with a drone or other gadget. Once identified, that defender will appear in a list of Deimos’ HUD. After initiating the tracking, it takes about 3 to 4 seconds for the tracking to start.

Do keep in mind that only Deimos and the targeted defender will be able to see each other’s red pings. And every other operator in the lobby will get a notification about which defender is being hunted by Deimos. So to effectively hunt down the tracked operator, Deimos will need to give precise callouts to his teammates.

Tips and Tricks

  1. You can cancel the tracking after seeing the position of the defender and just before your (Deimos) location gets pinged to the defender.
  2. Use Deimos as bait, so other Attackers can instead hunt down the tracked defender.
  3. Save one tracker for late rounds, it will come in handy during a 1v1 situation for example.

How to counter Deimos?

Deimos’ small drone cannot be destroyed, but you can counter it in several ways. Firstly, Mute’s jammer is a strong counter to Deathmark Tracker, as it prevents the defender’s location from being revealed. The best way to counter Deimos with Mute jammer would be to go into the jammer’s radius when the text appears of being tracked and just before the helicopter finds you. This way, Deimos would lose one of his three trackers.

You can use the above trick to counter Deimos with Tubarao and Vigil as well as to burn one of the charges. Additionally, like the attacking team baiting with Deimos, you can also bait Deimos by coordinating with another defender.

Should you pick Deimos?

Deimos is a fun and strong operator in the right hands. To get the most out of him, you need to have good coordination and be able to give precise callouts to your teammates.

You could play Deimos as a solo operator and just hunt down the defender by yourself but for that, you should have a good aim and be comfortable with the revolver. While I won’t suggest Deimos to beginners, as a wild factor he is a very good choice.

You can now unlock Deimos for 25,000 renown or 1200 R6 Credits.

Rainbow Six Siege has brought back the Extraction-inspired ‘Containment‘ event in Year 9. The new event features a similar ruleset, but Ubisoft has added new cosmetic REACT skins for the return of the event.

The Rainbow Six Siege Containment event has returned and with it came the special game mode, played in the reskinned Consulate map.

Not only that, the game mode is played during nighttime, so new Siege players can try out night maps that used to exist even in Ranked/Casual modes before.

In the game mode “Containment,” the attackers from the REACT team keep their standard equipment and abilities. On the other hand, the defenders known as Proteans don’t possess any weapons. Instead, they rely on their increased HP and aggressive melee strikes to defeat attackers.

New cosmetic options for the Proteans (defenders) have been introduced for the operators: Bandit and Mozzie. Similarly, new REACT bundles have been introduced for Hibana and Zofia. Additionally, Sens and Ram are now playable as Attackers, although they do not come with REACT-themed cosmetics.

Players, who have missed out on previous containment collections, can now get them, as Ubisoft also brought back the full collection from before.

All the new Containment bundles are available in the in-game store, and you can purchase them with 1680 R6 Credits (without Battlepass discount). However, you can even get the skins by buying the Containment Alpha Packs, with each pack costing 12,500 Renown.
