Here is all the help you need if you’re struggling to find Emeralds in the world of Minecraft!

Minecraft is a 3D sandbox game created by Mojang Studios back in 2009. The core gameplay of Minecraft revolved around building whatever you could think of with square blocks. This massively popular game is characterized by its blocky, pixilated, and procedurally generated three-dimensional world with virtually endless terrain.

Minecraft is where you have to let your creativity run loose, as the number of things you can do and the things you can create and find in this game are as limitless as the world itself!

Build, explore, fight, hunt, trade, everything is ultimately up to you. Whether you want to settle down and expand your base or you want to venture out to find rare biomes, you’ll be in for an epic adventure.

One of the many useful resources in Minecraft is Emerald. However, unlike other ores in the game, such as diamond or netherite, emerald is mainly used as a currency for trading. So, if you’re running low on emeralds and you don’t know where to look, then don’t worry. You came to the right place!

How and Where to Get Emeralds in Minecraft

The ultimate trading currency in Minecraft can be obtained from four primary sources. Although you would mostly be using the first one, let’s go over all of them one by one.

1. Villager Trading

The best way to get emeralds is to trade them for common commodities with the villagers with a profession. No other method of getting emeralds comes even close. Although villagers of each profession trade valuable items for emeralds, some trades let you sell items that are valuable for their profession in exchange for emeralds!

Some of the best trades in our opinion are listed below!

  • Trade sticks with a Fletcher. Sticks can be easily obtained by having a bamboo forest.
  • Trade carrots and wheat with a Farmer.
  • Trade paper with a Librarian. Paper can be obtained by having a sugarcane farm.

2. Mob Loot

Although you really don’t wanna rely on this method for farming emeralds, any few extra emeralds you can pick up from killing hostile enemies won’t hurt. Enemies like the Vindicator and the Evoker have a chance of dropping emeralds when they die.

Also, foxes can also drop emeralds if they’re carrying it in their mouth. So always keep an eye out for them.

3. Chest Loot

Again, it’s not the most reliable way, but you can get your hands on a few emeralds every once in a while when searching for loot chests.

These chests can be found in the following spots:

  • Buried Treasure
  • Desert Temple
  • Igloo
  • End City
  • Stronghold
  • Jungle Temple
  • Shipwreck
  • Underwater Ruins
  • Village

4. Emerald Ore Mining

Like diamond and iron ores, you can also get emeralds from emerald ores. Now the catch is, that the spawn rate of emerald ore veins is actually much lower than diamonds! Therefore, it’ll take a long time to mine up any meaningful amount of emeralds that way.

With that said, Minecraft spawns emerald ore veins around Y=-16 and Y=320.
