Nintendo players might just lose an opportunity to turn Palworld into Pokémon World.
The Palworld mod that cheekily armed Pokémon with guns, turning the “Pokémon With Guns” concept into a vivid reality just faced a rude awakening. This is because Nintendo has decided to throw down the legal hammer.
That’s right, as you might have guessed already, Nintendo has taken legal action against the mod. The mod in question envisioned players taking on the role of Ash Ketchum. But this time in a gun-wielding Pokémon adventure.

This creative mod was introduced by YouTuber ToastedShoes through a teaser clip on January 22, 2024.
He showed a subsequent full video and breakdown of the mod on January 23. It showcased an alternate universe where Ash captures, commands, and engages in battles with Pokémon. But this time they are armed to the teeth with firearms.
The video, however, received an unexpected DMCA takedown from Nintendo on X (formerly Twitter). And ultimately, it threw a wrench into the plans of making the mod publicly available.
So, Can You Turn Palworld into Pokémon?
Unfortunately for those eager to dive into this imaginative Pokémon world, ToastedShoes has decided to hold off on the public release for now. He stated that he wanted to “tread lightly” in the face of Nintendo’s legal intervention.
The video portraying the mod not only featured Ash’s adventures. It also highlights the distinctions between Palworld and the traditional Pokémon experience.
While the inclusion of guns in Palworld was a standout and meme-worthy feature, it also introduced edgier mechanics and vibes, challenging the expectations of players, especially to the ones seeking a more conventional monster-taming experience.
Adding a quirky touch to the mod, Ash’s voiced dialogue, sounding remarkably like Sarah Natochenny’s portrayal of the character, brought an extra layer of fun. ToastedShoes revealed that these lines were delivered by an anonymous voice actor, emphasizing the mod’s creative and playful spirit.
While Nintendo’s legal radar seems focused on the mod using Pokémon characters, Pocketpair, the developers of Palworld, maintain confidence in the safety of their game itself from any legal repercussions.
They have asserted that it doesn’t explicitly incorporate copyrighted characters. Despite the legal hiccup, the creative and unique aspects of the mod have left Pokémon fans both amused and curious about what could have been.
So, I hope that there isn’t much hiccup and that the modding community can do its magic regarding this topic.
