Sunset is VALORANT’s latest addition to the competitive map pool. Here are the best agents you should play in Sunset to maximize your winning chance.

Sunset’s map layout encourages you to take a lot of gunfights as Duelists, especially in the middle part, which is a very important area to keep under control for any side. So, naturally, you can play two Duelists on this map. However, make sure to pick at least one Duelist who can flash.

The map also has tons of angles and chokepoints. So, you and your team must always watch your backs; otherwise, flanks may ruin any strategic plays in the equation. However, if you pick one good Sentinel Agent, you’ll be good to go.

The A and B sites have a few entrances, all of which you can block using most Controller Agents’ smokes. Although there are many chokepoints in Sunset, it is not mandatory to have Initiator Agents on your team, provided you have other Agents who can flash. Still, we recommend taking at least one Initiator Agent for hard-cleaning angles.

10 Best Agents to Play on Sunset

Earlier, we talked about what types of Agents fit well in Sunset and how many of each role you should have in your team. But there are many Agents to pick from, and choosing the best one is crucial to winning a match in Sunset.

Thankfully, Sunset has been in the competitive map rotation for quite some time now. Thousands of matches have been played on this map, giving us enough information to know the current meta and which Agents are best on this map. So, without further ado, let’s get into it.

Best Duelists

Reyna

  • Abilities:
    • Passive: Soul Harvest
    • Basic: Leer
    • Signatures: Devour, Dismiss
    • Ultimate: Empress

If your team has less than one Initiator, it is a good idea that you have Reyna on your team, especially because of her flashes. As Sunset is a map filled with sharp angles and tight corners, it is a must to have as many flashes as possible. Not to mention, if there are no healer characters like Sage or Skye in a team, you can definitely shine with Reyna in Sunset.

Jett

  • Abilities:
    • Passive: Drift
    • Basic: Cloudburst, Updraft
    • Signature: Tailbind
    • Ultimate: Blade Storm

Jett is irreplaceable for Operator users. Sure, Chamber and Reyna can somewhat fill her shoes. However, they can never effectively replace Jett. So, even after Jett’s continuous nerfs, she can still be a good Duelist for you or your team in Sunset for so many reasons.

Phoenix

Phoenix
  • Abilities:
    • Basic: Blaze, Curveball
    • Signatures: Hot Hands
    • Ultimate: Run it Back

Phoenix can be your backup pick if you are thinking about adding another Duelist to your team, although it is not the best option. The Sunset map’s aggressive angles make Phoenix a highly successful agent for bringing out frags. Still, he might not perform well in the higher ranked lobbies.

Best Controllers

Clove

Clove
  • Abilities:
    • Basic: Pick me Up, Meddle
    • Signature: Ruse
    • Ultimate: Not Dead Yet

Clove is undoubtedly Sunset’s best Agent right now. You can select just one Duelist for the team if you pick Clove. With the additional space on your team, you can add a Controller or, better yet, a Sentinel Agent to your team.

Omen

Abilities:

  • Basic: Shrouded Step, Paranoia
  • Signature: Dark Cover
  • Ultimate: From the Shadows

Omen is the obvious choice for you as the best Controller Agent in Sunset. You can use all of Omen’s utilities effectively on this map. Sunset is a map full of narrow alleys and choke points. So, you can use Omen’s Paranoia to blind enemies hiding behind those angles. Moreover, there are opportunities to create one-way smokes all over the map.

Sunset also has a lot of elevated spaces. Omen can easily reach these points with his Shrouded step. This allows him to play with creative off-angles. Finally, using his ability From the Shadows, you can fast-rotate whenever needed.

Brimstone

Brimstone
  • Abilities:
    • Basic: Incendiary, Stim Beacon
    • Signature: Sky Smoke
    • Ultimate: Orbital Strike

Unlike some open maps, Sunset has many chokepoints and narrow entries, making it easier for Brimstone to shut them down using Sky Smoke. Not to mention, Brimstone’s smoke lasts longer than any other agent’s, which is why you should consider picking up in Sunset.

However, don’t forget his other abilities. Brimstone’s Incendiary is a brutal force in an after-plant situation. On the other hand, with his Ultimate, you can wipe out a full team if they get into a corner.

Best Sentinels

Cypher

Cypher
  • Abilities:
    • Basic: Trapwire, Cyber Cage
    • Signature: Spycam
    • Ultimate: Neutral Theft

Cypher can always be an excellent choice for tight maps like Sunset. Moreover, with the recent buffs in patch 7.09, the Moroccan Agent just got better. Cypher’s Trapwires are now unbreakable without any damage instant, making him stronger in locking a site.

Additionally, his Cyber Cage can be used as a second smoke and can create one-ways to slow an enemy push. His abilities are also efficient in attacking sides. With so many angles to cover, Cypher is the ideal choice to keep the flanks under surveillance.

Sage

Sage
  • Abilities:
    • Basic: Barrier Orb, Slow Orb
    • Signature: Healing Orb
    • Ultimate: Resurrection

Surprisingly, Sage is also pretty good in Sunset. You may be wondering why we’re not considering Killjoy, who is a meta Agent right now, and you wouldn’t be alone. Although we agree that Killjoy is the meta Sentinel right now, Cypher can easily replace her on this map. So, instead of Killjoy, we suggest you take Sage if you’re willing to pick a second Sentinel in your team.

With Sage, you can not only heal your teammates but also hold down sites and buy enough time for them to come and help you. Moreover, her slow orbs can help you while clearing corners. And with some good lineups, you can also help out your teammates on the Attackers’ side.

Best Initiators

Skye

Skye
  • Abilities:
    • Basic: Regrowth, Trailblazer
    • Signature: Guiding Light
    • Ultimate: Seekers

Skye is a good Initiator agent for any map, including Sunset. Fade and Skye are pretty similar in terms of playstyle, especially on the Sunset map. Skye’s Trailblazer can clear the deadly spots while Guiding Light forces enemies out of the site. Moreover, if you’re playing a hard support role, Skye is a better option than Fade, as she can heal allies using Regrowth.

Fade

Fade
  • Abilities:
    • Passive: Terror Tail
    • Basic: Prowler, Seize
    • Signature: Haunt
    • Ultimate: Nightfall

Fade is an excellent Initiator for maps like Sunset. Thanks to her Prowlers, you won’t have to be constantly aware of the corners on this map. After you chase your enemies down, your Duelist can take charge and clear the first few corners. Even if you’re playing alone, you can use Seize to prevent enemies from leaving that angle.

After clearing corners, pushing into the site or retaking it is also important. In that case, Fade’s Haunt will clear the path by either revealing the enemies or removing them from the vital spots in Sunset.

Best Team Compositions in Sunset

We’ve given you some ideas regarding what Agents to pick in Haven. Now, let’s talk about the team composition. Good or bad, not every Agent syncs with other Agents. For example, if you have Skye on your team, then there’s almost no point in picking up Sage. Instead, go for the other two Sentinels that we recommended and vice versa. The same rule will also apply to flash and smoke Agents.

With that in mind, here’s our recommendation for the best team compositions in Haven:

  • Team composition 1: Clove, Reyna, Omen, Cypher, Skye
  • Team composition 2: Pheonix, Jett, Omen, Sage, Fade
  • Team composition 3: Jett, Omen, Clove, Cypher, Sage
  • Team composition 4: Reyna, Phoenix, Omen, Cypher, Sage
