Despite holding a partner spot, OpTic Gaming suddenly decides to leave the Apex Legends pro scene after the team fails to qualify for the ALGS 2024 Split 1 Playoffs.
One of Apex‘s most popular teams, OpTic Gaming, tweeted on X that they released the roster of Dropped, SkittleCakez, and Knoqd.
Although the organization only announced the roster release in the post, Dropped later confirmed that OpTic was exiting the overall Apex scene.
OpTic Gaming, as one of Apex’s partnered teams, was invited to the ALGS 2024 Split 1 Pro League. However, the team did not live up to its reputation, failing to qualify for the Playoffs, which will begin on May 2, 2024, at the Galen Center in Los Angeles.
OpTic Gaming finished 14th out of 30 teams in the Split 1 Pro League. As a result, they still remain eligible for direct entry in the Split 2 Pro League. However, with OpTic’s sudden departure, the team may have to continue ALGS under a new banner.
Before the official post on X, Dropped had a conversation with OpTic Gaming, where he got some clarifications as to why OpTic Gaming was suddenly exiting Apex Legends. During the discussion, Dropped asked them whether the EA partnership program was not enough to keep OpTic in the game. And the reply was, “No, it wasn’t enough to keep them [OpTic] in the game.”
Prior to the conversation, the team had no idea that OpTic was going to release the team. As a result, the news surprised them just as much as it did everyone else.
As it stands, Dropped, Skittlecakez, and Knoqd are still together as a team. However, Dropped clarified that if someone from the team gets an offer from an org, other members will not try to hold each other back.
